Rielly out of position again.

I'd say that was on Phaneuf. Rielly seemed to be compensating by playing closer to the middle than the left because he didn't have a partner.

Yeah.  Good Lord.

If you replay that Phaneuf was in the face off circle and then didn't get back and skated thru the centre instead of picking up the St. Louis player.

Who was the forward back?  Whoever it was was backing up the D but then he just vacated the spot.  They had 2 guys back but then he went from the middle towards the puck carrier and it left the guy with no one down that side.

He pinched in and a forward dropped back to cover, but then the forward darted back up ice instead of continuing to cover.  It's pretty basic, I remember doing it in minor hockey.

Is Dion ever not on when we get scored on?

Rielly, too, is on for his fair share. If Gardiner is supposed to be bad defensively, then I don't know what Rielly is. He's young though.

This team has no positioning. Defensive we are atrocious. This falls on coaching. No back check either. Has been going on all year but Nonis seems to be ok with this. And he is privy to much more information than we are.

Poor kids.  All the way from Nunavut for some Leafs swag and a clinic on how not to play hockey.

Phaneuf was out of position again.  3  -  1    Blues, and that might seal the deal for the Blues tonight.

He is just not fast or talented enough to be a good player offensively, and his lack of foot speed is so glaring, especially when he is caught up ice, or is penned in his own end.

The Leafs should be playing the defensemen who can skate more (ie  Gardiner and Reilly).

But of course, we must defer to Carlyle's decisions about deployment of personnel because he is such a well-respected coach right now.....

I disagree. The Blues are very much showing them the right way to play.

Bolland was actually the forward who dropped back, but then he went for a change and things got pretty murky after that.

My goodness. It's almost like our #1 defenseman would be their #4.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer a sincere apology to Barrett Jackman and Roman Polak.

Rielly, Gleason and Franson are all on the ice for more goals against per 20:00 of ice-time than Phaneuf.  Gunnarsson is around the same as Phaneuf, and Gardiner is best on the team.
