    "We're missing motivation," says Bernier

Ouch

making the playoffs not enough motivation?

Yeah, I was wondering about that. What more motivation do they need? Unless they are only motivated to get Carlyle out the door.

Good.  No way did we deserve to be even in this.

I still don't see how its good.

A couple of more losses and buhbye Carlyle.  Besides, do you really want to see us get emabarrassed in the playoffs?

I kinda do.  Not making the playoffs is way more embarrassing to me.  Maybe it's just the way I see it.

But just think ... if they continue over the cliff we might see not just the coach but Nonis and Captain Enormous get gassed.  It would be a Trifecta.

I get the hate for Carlyle and Dion even if I don't entirely buy it but Nonis?

Misheard Bernier. Said "if we're missing motivation at this time of year ..." My apologies

It's been missing pretty much all season. No one should have expected them to find it now.

The fans in this town must be cursed or something. Leafs have an epic fail in game 7 last year, and essentially repeat the feat with their playoff shot.

I fully expect the Raptors to fall off the pace and end up losing to Chicago or Brooklyn in the first round.

Then there's the Jays. A couple well placed injuries to the usual suspects and they could be done early too.

I'm not averse to a clean sweep.  I'd like a new management team that takes a fresh look at the assets of the team, identifies the 7-10 players to keep and build around, and blows out the rest.  Call it a targeted rebuild.

Like almost all GMs, Nonis' record is uneven.  What bugs me most about him is that he let RC have way too much say in shaping roster decisions.  Or, if he didn't, he should be fired for misreading things so badly.

Wild Card Standings

Columbus 80 (10 games) 32 ROW
Detroit 80 (10 games) 28 ROW
---
Washington 80 (9 games) 25 ROW
Toronto 80 (8 games) 27 ROW

Kulemin and Bodie seemed to be the only 2 guys who could match the physical play of the big Blues.

I couldn't stomach to watch this game but I believe it.  The team is so soft up front, and the main guy they brought in to address that was Clarkson....so yeah that's where we're at there.

So just a little while ago they were in 3rd place a few points ahead of the Habs and Bolts, now they are essentially in 10th with their fate out of their hands.... nice. :(

I wonder how much this had to do with their style of play catching up to them, or whether they just got tired and couldn't sustain their play over 82 games?

I dunno, the decision on Grabbo bugged me and Clarkson was just gross but what did he misread so badly aside from that?

Also, I don't think anyone really knows how much input Carlyle had in shaping the team, aside from the day to day shuffling and what not. I mean, if he had input into getting Bernier you'd have to say something positive too, no?

Sure, build it, I think Nonis record shows he's geared that way ( almost to a fine point if the rumours of his relationship with the owners in Vancouver are true ). I really doubt he's going anywhere.

It's times like this that I'm glad I don't live in Canada.  You poor folks are going to have to suck it up all summer from Habs fans and Canucks fans and maybe even sens fans.

OTOH it now looks like DET will get in when it appeared that they would finally miss.  Maybe I'll just quietly put away my Leafs caps and tees for the summer.

what could a Canucks fan say to us?  They suck more.

The Grabbo and Clarkson moves had RC's fingerprints all over them.  Even if he singlehandedly convinced Nonis to go out and get Bernier (and he may have had some influence, considering how things have gone between Reimer and him) that wouldn't compensate.

But sure, I agree that it's unlikely that Nonis will get fired.

Oh, I don't know, how about something along the lines of just pointing out the facts posted by Derk just above?
