Blues @ Leafs - Oct. 7th, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Good game. Bad result but good game. I don't like that Willy was on the bench. He was our best forward all night so he should have got the nod over Johansson or even Marner.

Team is not aggressive enough with the empty net. 1-2 minutes left you have to do everything you can to keep possession and some of these guys aren?t willing to do that. Oh well another wasted effort.

Our best player on the night probably should have been out there for the empty net.

There's that.  And then the other thing is, after the TV timeout with 9 mins or whatever left, Babcock sends out the 3rd line.  Then they ice it and 90 seconds or whatever is burned.  I just don't get that.  Millions in talent sitting on the bench and he sends out the 3rd line.

Binnington outplayed Andersen.  First L of the season.

That?s 2 loses in a row.  With Tampa looming on Thursday.

7 straight loses for St. Louis.  Leafs goaltending has to get better in a hurry.  Outplay the Canadians and Blues and only get 1 of 4 points.  These early points matter.

Marner has been disappointing.

Babcock isn?t a good coach.  The modern NHL has passed him by.  We are stuck with him though.

If he doesn't make it out of the first round this year he's gone for sure.

For me too. He hasn't been good 5 v 5. That line has been very underwhelming so far through 4 games.

The third line's been pretty good lately. Just saying.

I think they need to put Mikheyev on that line. They really miss Hyman.

Need to get Kapanen away from Tavares and and Marner.

It's not just Hyman. Marner and JT are losing the puck a lot. So unlike them. They've been bad in our end too.

Third line has been good. JT line has been our weak spot. They need to be better.

RE: Why wasn't Nylander on the 6v5?
They were using PP1 with Barrie as an offensive safety, so I get why the coaching staff went with that. These guys have had the most practice together so far breaking down defensive boxes. As the season wears on, I think it would make more sense to integrate Nylander into the mix. He's not as fancy as Marner can be with the dishes, but in crunch time, you want straight forward attacking to get the job done fast.

Spezza looks good tonight. 4th line is solid. Time to stop the rotation crap.

I'm good with Timashov getting some games. I think Spezza needs to stay in though.

The third line should not be taking faceoffs after timeouts in a situation like that.  Period.

The team is structured around 2 loaded lines.  You play them the way, say, Colorado plays its top 2 lines.  As in, every reasonable opportunity.

I don't want to overcriticize Babcock but his stubborn adherence to spreading the icetime out no matter what costs the team points.

All true but Nylander and Matthews were the most dangerous forwards all night. Nylander was a beast tonight. You have to adjust as a coach and in this case Babs left our best player tonight on the bench.

I get what you're saying. Babs is very stubborn in his ways. He probably should have come back with the Matthews line in that instance. Last year it was starting the 4th line after a goal for or against. Head scratchers.
