Talk about much ado about nothing.  Does it really matter if they maintain a residence in Toronto or not?  These guys are travelling all the time and with the team practically every day.  We see the shots of them sitting up in the press box stone face every game.  Surely they have a place to stay at in Toronto on a temporary basis.

The Toronto media once again trying to blow a non-story way out of proportion.

Not to mention that where they live makes not one whit of difference in today's world.

That's not totally true. Face-to-face meetings, meals, handshakes etc., still play a significant role in contract negotiations, particularly in an industry like this.

I'm talking about his legal residence.  Of course they need to be on-scene most of the time.  Many people work that way now.

So on primetime yesterday they seemed to be making a big deal that neither Nonis nor Shanahan live in Toronto. Nonis lives in New Hampshire and Shanahan in Manhattan.

Should we care about this? Is this odd?

This does seem a little weird to me - but maybe this is normal now? I'm not sure what to make of this.

I certainly don't think it's a big deal or anything but I don't necessarily think it's nothing either. In this year's Road to the Winter Classic they had a segment on Washington's Goalie coach and how he was living out of his suitcase in a hotel room for the season and he was able to do the nuts and bolts of his job without a problem.

But I do think there is something to be said for being of and in the community when it comes to something like running the Leafs. I think that's why MLSE wanted someone like Leiweke to move here(even though that seems to have been one of the reasons the relationship fell apart). I'm sure a compelling case can be made that distance between the media market here and someone might even aid in dispassionate decision making but I'm not 100% convinced that's a good thing.

So - Bob McCown has been mocking Nonis and Shanahan for not living in or around Toronto - this has come up off and on the last few weeks, so yesterday, talking about spring training, he said something to effect of (and it started out as a joke) saying that Anthopoulos should have been in Florida since January - but then got serious and said 'I don't see why he can't be there - what can he do there that he can't do here?'

Believe me, I don't take any of this seriously, but come on, have some consistency on your stances...
