That could have been a 3 on 1 against us with Thornton on the point.

That would probably have been quite an appropriate summary of the series

After he gets paid his $9,608,000 signing bonus on July 1st Marner will have just $24.8mil left on his contract spread over 4 seasons.

You know, if anybody was wondering.
Seth Jones trade?

I think they are probably going to try and use that trade chip for a guy who can play up the middle but I?m definitely calling.

No one likes to use the injury excuse but this series got a lot closer when they took out Tavares 5 minutes in.

He's a year away from being a UFA, I don't see that as an option for the Leafs.

I honestly don't think an Eichel for Marner trade is completely out of the question though. Especially considering how much of Marner's contract is already paid for.

Why the hell are we putting Matthews in front of the net and giving Marner the shooting spot still.  How incompetent is the coaching staff?

Malhotra should never be allowed to run a powerplay again in his life.
Why did we take him over Bruce Boudreau again?

Guess I didn?t know what I was talking about but even with the injuries they should have put this series away. If they don?t make some major changes with this core I don?t know what to say. Fukn losers. Thank god I stopped watching early in the series.

But what exactly do you want them to do?  Which one do you want them to trade, and how?

Assuming they lose...the only core piece who should be considered would be Marner, but it would have to be a really good deal. I think maybe you give this group one more year, tweaking around the edges. Replace slow/unproductive players like Thornton and Simmonds with younger, quicker ones. Bring back Spezza, maybe Galchenyuk. Re-sign Hyman only if it is a deal that fits in, we can't mortgage the future to keep him. He's not going to age well and appears to already have lost a step. And hope like heck a couple of younger players (Robertson maybe) are ready to step in and play a regular role.

Thoughtful reply and I agree with so much of what you say but i?ll throw it out there....in trading a superstar (current anger aside) when has the team trading the superstar ever came out ahead? Can?t think of one but people here will likely come up with some examples

Bruins traded Thorton, and then 4 short years later, they won the cup.

IIRC, none of the players acquired were any kind of difference makers?

Oh they weren't, and the team got worse, but they rebuilt back up quickly.  I mean it was more than likely because Jacobs didn't want to pay Thorton what he was going to ask for, but there were questions about his commitment to playing in the playoffs.  Of course, those questions came after he played a series with broken ribs.  Ironically that series was against the Habs, in 2004, and it was a series that Boston lead 3-1, and Montreal came back to win the series.

You know what else really sucks?  Montreal will have come back in a 3-1 series 3 times after tonight.  Only Vancouver has done that.  Also, they have never lost when in this position.

Well.  This is why I stopped watching leaf hockey except for the playoffs.  Much less waste of time.

But then you miss all the good stuff!

I didn?t miss a lot of good stuff non hockey related and I didn?t  have this crushing feeling that I have right now.  This is honestly bad for my mental health. It?s silly when I read it as I type it out but it?s true.

I'd go for that right now.
