Canucks @ Leafs - Nov. 5th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Well, I guess I got my answer. I dunno. I'm happy as a leafs fan, but if this was the same play, say, Burrows on say, Matthews, and there was zero games, I'd be losing my @#it.

100% This.

This definitely adds a little more spice to the December 3rd game, even a token suspension/fine would have taken some sting out of that one.

Well, I don't think it's the right call but it's good for the Leafs so I'll allow it.

Kadri's hit on Sedin may have looked like a head hit from a certain angle, but it's been clearly defined as a charging shoulder hit.  Nothing illegal about that, as long as the head is not the point of contact.

Blind side hits are NOT illegal in itself. If the head isn't the MAIN point of contact, it doesn't matter if it's North/South or East/West. pic.twitter.com/edzNqfnf2M[/color

My issue with the hit was the vulnerability of the player. He was in the middle of taking a shot. There was no way he could protect himself. The fact that it was charging and a blindside is why I thought it was dirty. Kadri knew what he was doing.

Not illegal, but I wouldn't call it clean.

I was saying I don't think it's the right call but it benefits the Leafs so I'll allow it.

I can say it a third time if you're having a problem with it.

Charging is absolutely against the rules.

Even that could be considered marginal. He didn't leave his feet prior to making contact. It was an East/West blindside and it wasn't deemed illegal beyond time served.

The right call was made by DoPS.

Well, ok, I'd have figured it was unnecessary but here goes:

I don't think it was the right call but it benefits the Leafs so I'll allow it.

Well you were right about the unsustainable SV% by Andersen.

And I was right about them still finding a way to win regardless.

That was not a disagreement about the next game specifically.

I don't think it was charging either, even though he got called for it.  The charging rule is incredibly vague, though.

If you continue to skate through a hit, that is a charge and/or leave your feet prior to point of contact.

So if you glide into the hit and don't leave your feet prior to making contact it should not be called charging.

So in the instance of Kadri, he didn't go full stride into the hit, but his skates did leave the ice. What makes it marginal is the issue of 'when' Kadri's skates left the ice.

Oh I know. I just found it poetic after the discussion following the previous game.

That's basically where I'm at. I think a couple games was warranted here. Felt like a predatory hit to me, and, if it happened to a player on the Leafs, we'd all be calling for that player's head.

Doesn't that kind of go with being a fan?  You don't need to be rational about it - similar to how when a Leafs forward makes an offensive play we don't notice the defensive breakdown, but if it was the other way around that's what we would notice.  If something happens to the team we follow we'll react differently in the moment.  I'd be upset if Matthews was hit like that, I'd be upset if he was hit hard period.

I'm pretty ok with how it all went down, the penalty, no suspension. Yeah I wouldn't want to see one of our guys get rocked like that but this isn't a no contact sport.
