Damn, McKenzie says the Leafs tried to get Andy Murray to leave U of Western Michigan to join Leafs coaching staff but he's staying put.  Would have loved that addition.

Yeah, that's really too bad. I've been bringing his name up for years. Nice to see the Leafs approached him though.

That would have been a nice hire.  Hopefully the get their coaching staff put together at some point.  It would be nice if we could have people working on fixing the system over the offseason.

So with Mike Johnston being named the coach in Pittsburgh, there are no head coaching vacancies.

Should the Leafs now offer Bylsma big money to entice him to become an assistant coach?

Why not? I'm sure he doesn't want to sit around all season. I'd at least talk to him, if they haven't already.

You don't see a lot of these guys taking jobs to leave them mid-season though.  I think it's more likely that he sits on the sidelines and waits for the first team to get jumpy three games into the season.

He'll still be collecting a pretty nice pay cheque from the Penguins too until he signs with another team. I think his salary was either $3mil or $4mil.

Just heard that he was officially let go and was about to post that the Leafs should look into him.

@FriedgeHNIC Did you say on PTS that Carlyle demanded 2yr deal or he quit? Heard this 3rd hand, want to confirm.

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC  1h
@JPNikota Not that simple. Was angry at what was happening. Threatened to quit, they gave him an extra year.

@FriedgeHNIC Woof. Well, thanks for the clarification.

Just an odd question but what happens if Carlyle manages to lead the Leafs to a 100 point season and a playoff berth.  Does Carlyle get fired at the end of the season in order to bring in Babcock?  Just wondering if a coach ever got extended when his team missed the playoffs, but got fired for getting the team into the playoffs the season after.  I know it is not even 20 games into the season so there is plenty of time for the Leafs to screw up so hopefully that will not happen.

I would wager anything short of a Stanley Cup, Carlyle is gone if Babcock is coming.

Even an ECF appearance, I think they'll say it's an upgrade.

The team is being built to go to the next level. We have a core of very good young talent that is under contract for the next 3-4 years, we have young guys coming up like Holland and Leivo (and more to come, Nylander, Johnson etc). We have brought in character with Winnek, Komorav, Booth and Santorelli, all men with something to prove.
Our front office is set with a new group and a new vision, we are setting the table for Bab___Ks feast.
