Cell Phones

I sense a bit of a shot against bigger screened phones. Somewhat unfair of you to imply that anything bigger than the iphone (which in all honesty IS considered small now) wouldn't fit in a pocket. I've had the 3GS, Nexus S, Galaxy S3 and now the Note 2. The fact that every iteration of phone gets thinner makes it easier to fit in your pocket, and so far I really haven't had any trouble carrying my Note 2 around.

It was a shot against the baby screen comment, which I think is just as unfair. I get that some people obviously prefer the larger screen size, or Samsung wouldn't be making phones that way. Personally though I don't like them. Even if the iPhone went too much bigger than what it already is (which as mentioned it's rumoured to increase in size) I wouldn't be a fan. The 5 might be the last phone I purchase from them if that's the case.

But like I was trying to say in my second paragraph, the screen size should really be the last determining factor when someone like BGR is trying to figure out the "best smartphone of 2013".

Rumours are it'll be 4.8" screen, which would be the same screen size as the Galaxy S3.  Honestly with the small bezels nowadays they can make phones smaller with bigger screen sizes.  Just look at the Motorola X, it's a 4.7" screen but doesn't feel like a big phone at all.  Look at this side by side, it's got a much bigger display than the iPhone 5S but isn't overpowering in size:

I will say that the size of the Galaxy Note, pocket stuffer though it is, has essentially eliminated any urge I have to carry around both a phone and a laptop/tablet.

A good point. For  me, it's actually the opposite. I use my devices a lot for business, so I'll be buying a tablet/laptop hybrid thing. Because of that, I'll probably go for a smaller phone next time.

As of now, I don't have a tablet, so having a larger screen on my Xperia is nice. It's a bit smaller than the note, but still a decent size.

That is right where I am at, I'll never go back.

I was in rogers, doing some Christmas shopping, and was in there for maybe a half hr. During that time I saw 7 bb's sold, 2 Samsung, 1 lg, and no I phones. More and more I am hearing complaints about the I phone. I almost went android but I was talked into the bbz30, not a mistake. Every day that passes it just keeps getting better and better. as for that article, i'll bet apple wrote it.

I don't hate iphone  its just that they are a rip off, price wise for what you get. bb hit a home run with the z30. and all I wanted to do was let anyone know who was thinking of getting one, that they wont be disappointed, not one little bit.

I will be considering one, thanks.

Samsung, please, you guys wanna see a big phone?  Sony Ultra Z, 6.4"  I'll let u figure out which one it is:

I charged my Z30  tue night, I used it from 6am until 10:30pm and still had just over half battery power left. Today up at 5:30, and started using it. I had yellow at noon and it started to go red by two. Am now home and I just plugged it in, and trust me, during this time I multi tasked big time, vids, music, work, and just surfed, and chatted. That's a lot of battery time before a charge was needed.

Really though it's all personal preference. They're almost all pretty good units now.

I will say your anecdote is irrelevant though, as sales of iPhone and android far outstrip bb these days.

Its' funny, because your experience is the absolute polar opposite of mine. Not a single one of my friends with iPhones has any major complaints about it - and a lot of my friends have them. Most of my friends with Androids complain about the battery life, and every single one of my friends who has one of the new BB devices has had major issues with the operating system. Their phones either won't take updates without basically bricking the phone or the updates cause more problems than they fix - and, I'm not talking about isolated incidents, either. I seriously mean every single person I know in real life with one of the new devices has had similar complaints. It's unreal. I only hear minor gripes about iPhones, Androids and Windows phones, while there are major headaches from everyone with a device running BB10. The most common thing I hear about the new Blackberrys is that the handsets are great, they just wish they didn't have to run BB10 on them.

Have had no issues with Z30, nor have I heard of anyone who has. and yes I am well aware of the flavor of the month right now(I phone), and that it is out selling all others. but I do know one thing the best phones are not made by Apple. Not anymore. If I paid them crazy prices for Apple stuff, I would brag it up as well. One thing I will give them is there Advertising can't be matched by anyone, simply brilliant. Kind of reminds me of the flu shot scam, more brilliant advertising. sucked the masses into buying sub par crap at crazy prices.

Being the market leader for almost 7 years isn't exactly being the "flavour of the month." I get that you like your BB30, and that's wonderful, but that's no reason to crap all over the iPhone, which is also a wonderful unit.

I also prefer my phones to come from companies that will still probably exist two years from now.

To be fair, RIM probably will, they'll just be a subsidiary of someone else.

What is it that you guys don't like about the iPhone? I don't have a bias against the Android phones or the BB or Nokia but nothing comes close to an iPhone. I have tried them all.

My dad has a Samsung Note 2. After about 7 months of use, the unit has become so laggy and slow. Who wants to debug a phone? LOL!

My iPhone still runs the same as when I first got it. I have an iPhone 5. I also love the fact that using an iPhone I am guaranteed that a new app or a new awesome game will be on my platform. Need an app to start my car? I am sure I won't get that app on a BB or a Windows Phone. The camera on the iPhones are also the best in the industry. Nothing comes close.

Would I like my screen a bit bigger? Sure. Nothing else comes close. Flame on ;-)

This part unfortunately isn't true anymore. The Nokia Lumia has the best camera for any phone and the new BB units are better in low-light. That being said, I expect a major camera upgrade for the iPhone 6.

Is that still true? I'd read they were losing a ton of market share to Samsung although I suppose that might just be the total for all of Samsung's phones.

Last time I looked into it, there were still more iPhones being used than any other line of phone. It's possible that Samsung may be selling more total units right now, but, I'm not sure they have more units being used (and I'm almost certain there are less total Galaxy phones in use than total iPhones). iOS is no longer the leading platform, but, I'm pretty sure the iPhone is still the most widely used handset.

Might be. This is the article I remember reading:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/04/26/samsung_smartphone_sales_rise_to_double_apple_s_market_share.html

So it has Apple's Market share as roughly half of Samsung's worldwide although your point about the single handset is valid.

Are we using every iteration of iPhone to make that call though? I'd like to see the stats. It makes more sense to go model by model numbers rather than overall numbers through a product line - an original iPhone is significantly different than an iPhone 5S for example.
