Cell Phones

It might be a minor thing, but, I don't understand why Samsung hasn't released a 64 GB version of the Galaxy S3 - especially in light of the very real possibility that Apple will announce a 128 GB version of the iPhone 5.

Yeah, especially considering the 64GB version is available internationally.

I think they are still selling it on the 'expandable storage' opportunity that the Iphone does not come with, but even then if you put a 64GB card in a 32GB model it is still going to be less than a 128GB Iphone and Apple customers are not shelling out for a memory card.

To a non-techno person looking to get into his first smart phone, (and having a bias against itunes and the IMO predatory software with Apple) would I adapt better with a Samsung 2 or dive into the 3..or how long until the 4 and then the 3 would be cheaper....

We are moving into our first home in a couple of weeks and dont plan on getting a home phone. Both of us have cell phones, and everytime we visited the condo we both had perfect service, so we dont see any point in adding an expense. We would not get rid of our cell phones to get one, so it would just be an added cost.

I think i am one of the only remaining members of team Blackberry lol

I think they (Blackberry) just released a new phone also, so you'll be up to date.

Did they? I thought they had everything on hold while they try and get their act together on the BB10 OS and new phones, which is killing them big time in the marketplace.

If anyone is still planning on hanging on as a BB customer, try and wait until their new phones come out.  There is a shred of hope they might actually be good, and pretty much anything out before those will be not well supported.

I have an Iphone 4S which was given to me as a work phone.  I miss BB's alot to be honest, not to say that this phone isn't better, but really, it's clear to me that BB's are better work phones.  The email and typing as WAY better on BB.  Everything I like better about my free Iphone 4S is totally non-work related.  :P

BB10 I expect to be amazing, I just don't know if it's enough for RIM to fully recover.

Yeah that is true.. not sure if I could do my job using an on-screen keyboard.  I have a Bold for work and typing 20-40 emails a day on a screen would kill me.

I'm not sure they recover either. They have pissed off so many customers over the last few years they will have a hard time being a significant market player again.  That said, the business world will still be a big part of their client base, and maybe that keyboard is what saves them.

It needs to be virtually flawless and to be released very soon for them to have any hope of regaining ground in the consumer market. There's already been too many hiccups along the way and they're coming from too far behind to make it work otherwise.

They showed off some prototypes, but the new phones won't be available until next year - which could be a major disaster for them in the consumer market, as they'll miss the Christmas shopping season.

RIM is on the path of Nortel.

It certainly appears that way. I read an article a little while back that showed an awful lot of parallels between them and Palm, shortly before they bottomed out and were bought out by HP. This set of new devices and the new OS is quite possibly their last chance at life on their own.

I used to work as a phone rep and every time I played around with the BB I couldn't understand how people stuck with it: The OS was god awful. I mean, when you lag that far behind from offerings from other companies you have to REALLY turn it around and quickly. OS5 had wayyyy too many options in the settings and was extremely cumbersome. The new OS helped, but it didn't really provide an image overhaul that was needed.

I mean, I just don't understand how the leadership of the company thought everything was hunky dory when myself as a sales rep could see things spiral out of control starting in 2009 (especially after the 3GS and release of the Nexus One).

Bender I have never understood RIM's process either.  They had the phone most used by business people but others were catching up with that one.  The others were clearly beating them badly with phones for the "cool kids".  I always thought RIM should continue with the same team on their "business" line and go out and hire a whole new group of young tech savvy people with the sole instruction to make a cool phone for RIM.  Surely it would have been an easier path that trying to convince young people that BB was cool enough??

Pretty sad that a company can be dominate one instance and fall so quickly thereafter.

Yeah, though, that's what happens when you combine over-confidence, technical issues/service outages and an inability/unwillingness to adapt to changes in the market in a timely fashion.

Yeah, I mean, this has been a long time coming. It's the same thing with Nokia (who I think are crazy for not backing Android.)

Hey, I have nearly non-existant cell coverage in my house.  We have 4 Bell Mobility phones.  Outside the house is a bit better, maybe 1-2 bars.

I read somewhere about a Netgear Turbo Hub or something that amplifies your cell signal?  Anyone know about it?

Well, I love my Iphone 4.  My oldest son and daughter have the 4 as well (she's only on a pay as you go plan) and hubby has the 4S.  Oldest son is looking at the Samsung or something (due for a new phone soon) but I'm not sure what he's decided.  He's better at searching things like that.

I can't imagine getting rid of our home phone.  Kids don't always answer the dang cell phones and I need the home phone to get ahold of them, especially when they are watching the wee one.
