If I were running the Leafs Twitter accounts, you can bet I'd have been riffing off some esoteric player stats about Leafs playing in Minnesota, or Ennis, or some such.

Heh.

Well, if dreger is to be believed, the Leafs made a new offer with 100 minutes to go.

why would the leafs tell him?

It's not necessarily the Leafs who would have told him but even then it's pretty common in bargaining if there's public interest to leak that you're making offers. It casts you in a better light.

Yup. Taking control of the narrative is in their best interests.

Some people may see it as 45 minutes until we have a decision here but I like to see it as just a countdown until people are in here calling Marner a spoiled, small soft and selfish jerk who doesn't care about winning and is also somehow unduly influenced by Michael Nylander.

A day or so ago I posted something about how things could get problematic if they let this go down to the wire.  I never really thought they would let it, though.

I'm sure the Leafs' PR team already has game plans for either scenario.

Marner is premature  ;) but I do agree. I shall be one of them... :-\

Probably, but it?s not unusual for the early impressions that end being what sticks in people?s minds and colours their opinion going forward. It?s important that opinion matches their messaging.
