So he talks about halving of cases time based on circuit breakers. We had a 4 week circuit breaker* put in place beginning exactly 4 weeks today beginning October 16th. The feeling was that it was probably a couple of weeks too late.

9th October had been the first date on which we had over 1000 positive tests.

As you can see things started to accelerate in September then exploded in early October. The circuit breaker kicked in in mid October and we are indeed down to around half the number of positive tests. Our hospitals are sitting at around 107% of capacity

Our circuit breaker has been extended by another week.

*it wasn't a complete shut down. The first 2 weeks coincided with schools being closed for half term so that helped but they have been open for the last 2 weeks. Supermarkets are still open. Bars, restaurants, cafes, hairdressers, hotels etc are all closed.

Next week cafes and hairdressers are due to reopen, then in 2 weeks restaurants will be opening again. SO it certainly seems to have worked, but the question is are we going to ramp up again when the restaurants etc open in a couple of weeks and are we going to have to then do another month in, say, February with things closed down again, and so on and so on

Looks like a bunch of us are heading into the red zone:

https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ontario-lowers-thresholds-for-covid-19-framework-moves-several-cities-to-red-zone-1.5187457

Red Zone changed from 100/ to 40/ 100000/week.

Wonder if further restrictions come with the red zones as well, like Toronto did on their own.

Just what a clown show of rank incompetence this guy is. The conservatives could have thrown a rock at their back benches and hit just about anyone 100x better suited for leadership than Ford.

I hope more people are realizing this. He garnered a lot of good will after botching the March Break call but used that time to do diddly squat to prepare the province for the school year.

He is just a Donald who can string a few more words together.

https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ontario-reports-more-than-1-400-new-covid-19-cases-1.5190628

By my math, that's a positivity rate of 4.5%.

The Toronto and Peel numbers are insane. I don't get how those don't warrant a March-like lockdown.

edit: I blanked and forgot that Toronto put in further restrictions than just what the red/control ones are. Still I think the messaging of everyone there needing to go back to a spring mindset of staying home as much as possible will really only happen when the provincial government bumps them into the lockdown category.

It really is something watching governments know that a lockdown needs to happen but being unwilling to make the financial commitments that would go along with it and being reduced to making "recommendations" that have virtually no weight behind them.

The number of people they're willing to let die for "the economy" really is staggering.

Literally the same reaction to overwhelming climate change evidence.

But the economy is going to be worse off in the long run. We dont have to do this forever. Get through the toughest days of winter, hold things at bay during spring, summer we get the reprieve like last year and we start getting our shots. There's a clear game plan now that we have an idea of efficacy of the vaccine candidates.

What in the hell? Christmas is in 5 weeks. We'll be lucky if anyone's in the green zone. I'm in green now, but our cases are rapidly increasing.

I am watching cnn right now and they?re showing secret footage of Russian hospitals and how Covid is out of control there.

I guess their fake magic vaccine did not work.

This is just mind-blowingly insane (and sad)

Denying covid exists as you take your dying breath... It's just so sad.

It really does make me wonder whether "freedom of speech" is such a good thing. It should *not* be legal to lie your ass off on TV, particularly as a public figure, and condemn tens or hundreds of thousands of people to their deaths just for being dumb enough to believe you.

(Yes, I know trying to legislate any sort of limits on Freedom of Speech/Expression would be opening up a whole impossible can of worms but I kind of wish public figures were required to speak as though "under oath" when making public statements.)

I know, I know, I'm an idiot for being involved in a Facebook argument. But, I have a friend in Georgia who lived in Canada for the first 20 years of her life and Atlanta for the most recent 20 years. She's hardcore conservative now. More or less anti-mask, science-denying, etc. you know the drill.

She was vehemently arguing that the US has only 165,000 cases and that's not bad given the population size. Me and some others pointed out that's the number of NEW CASES PER DAY.

<silence.......>

It's unbelievable how willfully ignorant some people can be about this.
