Decisions, decisions

So you agree that its starting to be fun to be a Leaf fan again. ;D

I never said it wasn't fun. I really enjoy the managerial aspects of what the Leafs are doing these days.

The on-ice product is where my expectations are tempered for the moment. I'll enjoy watching Nylander, Marner, et al. play, but if we lose games, I will be okay with that too.

Oh look, something we agree on.  I knew it was bound to happen at some point.  :)

We're both Leaf fans, so we already agreed to begin with. We have different views about certain situations, and any disagreements over ideas are simply opportunities for each of us to learn from each other and grow.

The Kadri contract basically highlights his destiny on the team: a) he is part of the solution, hence the long term contract; b) he is not going to be relied upon to score all the goals the way he was initially touted by Burke/Wilson, hence the salary; c) he was used very effectively as a defensive match up against opposing top lines and tilt the ice in the Leafs favour possession-wise, so we're going to run him that way and see where it takes us.

If his scoring picks up, he's going to be one of the best 3rd line centres ever, seeing as how he's already a very competent 1st line centre. As we've seen with the Penguins run, when you can roll three lines, you'll be able to match and then overmatch opposing teams one way or another.

Matthews - Nylander - Kadri is going to be ridiculous.

Oh I don't doubt it, especially since his QoL is undoubtedly going to be much better than last season.  In addition, its another developmental summer for him where Babs has outlined specifically where he needs to develop.

That means he's reached the point of fine tuning his game.

Where I have my doubts is were Babs views Nylander.  I think based on his play away from the puck, he really prefers him on the wing at this time.

So I don't think that getting a player of Stamkos' quality, at Stamkos' age hurts the Shanaplan rebuild in any way.  When he is only 26, there is no need to jettison futures to build around him.  You still have a couple years to see what you have in your young prospects.

Hence:

Stamkos
Matthews
Kadri

with Nylander better insulated on wing in his official rookie season would be even more dynamite IMO.

I recommend that you repost this in the Stamkos thread (with a bit more flesh on the idea), because there are a lot of reasons posted about how Stamkos would hurt the rebuild and not enough reasons about how Stamkos would help the patient rebuild.

Yup. I agree. Stamcos, at 26 is the right age for this team, he would be on the first wave, as is Kadri, and Jvr. then the kids would have a top group to keep them sheltered some what while they bloom.

That might be very true, however, I still see the possibility of Kadri being traded in a package for a top defense man.

Now you've lost me.

There has been some noise/rumours that Kadri may be traded for help at the D position in the past.  I'm not sure that it can be ignored just yet.

Do I stay, or, do I go?  That is the question!

I'm trying to see this from your perspective and I'm having some difficulty (hence the squinting). Can you help me understand why the Leafs feel the need to trade Kadri for defensive help after signing him very recently to a 4.5M AAV/6 year deal, especially when there are more attractive trade options on the team whose return value would exceed their current value to our rebuilding team?

I think management were surprised that Kadri took that offer IMHO.  It is a great contract going forward for our team.

It makes Kadri even more attractive as a trade target for interested teams.  I'm not saying Kadri will be traded, nor do I really want him traded, however, a top 2 D man would be a nice piece to add to our team.  You have to give to get!

We'll shall see if Kadri stays long term.

I still can't get over how great a contract that is.

Top three off-season thingies (so far):
1. 1st overall pick!
2. Rielly and Kadri contracts
3. I don't know yet (because something might happen at the draft/free agency)... but I really love the Winnik trade too.

Winnik was during the season. Don't break your own rules!

I realized that after and I thought... who will even read this? Who will actually pay that kind of attention to a throwaway comment?

I can always count on you, Bullfrog :)

Yes, I'm an expert at pointing out other's mistakes while concurrently avoiding any meaningful input. It's a skill.

On point: I like your "I don't know yet." Given how great things have been, I'm also optimistic something notable will be coming. I haven't been this optimistic about the team ever.

Are Bullfrog and Nik alter ego's

I'd like to point out your erroneous use of an apostrophe in "ego's".

Bullfrog, can you go over to the Stamkos thread and help set them straight about the difference between complement and compliment? I tried, but I think you're more effective.

I do have a hair I need splitting, can anyone offer assistance.. There is no damn spellcheck on this site!

Most modern web browsers incorporate a spell check into their core build, and give that handy red underline in textboxes. I'm using Opera!

Unfortunately, it cannot help you with homonym errors, or typos that lead to actual words. I always mistype from and form, for example.

My apologies, but I must decline. I lost interest in that thread about 55 pages ago.  8) I could fix Highlander's run-on sentence/question and improper punctuation in the previous response if you'd like.

I assume I have some sort of whole word dyslexia.  I switch "no" and "know" all the time, and "buy" and "by".  The "to" and "too" thing is because I am ignorant.

You can't be TOO ignorant if you KNOW there is a 'to' and 'too' situation.  Do you see the TWO things I did there?  LOL

Thanks, that made me laugh.  Cheers.
