ECF: (A3) Montreal vs. (M2) New York

Tough loss.  They never really got close in the 3rd.  If they could have just squeaked out a win, I think they would have taken game 7 and been on their way to the finals where anything can happen, especially if Price was able to return.  Oh well, it was nice to believe for a while.

IMO they never really recovered from the game 1 debacle.

This series just reaffirmed my belief that the Rangers are the most boring team to watch in the East and possibly the league. Not sure if anyone noticed but they were playing a 1-3-1 for majority of the game last night.  Zzzzz

Zee I'm pretty sure you'd give your left *** to watch your precious dysfunctional Leafs go on a run to the Conference Finals.

Captain Obvious!

:-*

I mean, you of all people should know that if the roles were reversed Leafs fans could expect the same thing.  Doesn't mean they wouldn't want to be in that position.

I dunno - maybe if it was round 1....kind of hard to chirp / make fun of a team that was 2 games away from playing for the Cup when your team doesn't make the playoffs. Maybe that's just me and my hockey God fearing ways. The hockey Gods are all knowing / seeing. They punish.

It's actually remarkably easy.

They lost Price in that game, so no, they weren't the same.  There was a feeling that was gone and never returned.  Tokarski wasn't the problem obviously, he was excellent, but there was an intangible confidence throughout the entire team with Price.  He could get in the head of the other team as well.  I just don't see NYR winning if Price was healthy all series.

As for the Rangers, I actually can't stand them which makes this worse.  They don't impress me and they've got several players I just personally don't like.  Watching them win the cup would be insufferable.  I've never watched Carolina hoist the cup or celebrate when they won because of that series against the Habs in '06 - still to this day I'll change the channel if it's about to come on the highlights - I imagine if NYR wins it will be much the same.  And it had to be Moore that scored last night too.  When it was 0-0, I said to myself, if NYR scores, just don't let it be Domenic freaking Moore.

Wouldn't that translate in the numbers though?  Tokarski had a .946 SV% in the series and Price had a .927 SV% in the playoffs when he got hurt.  So for the rest of the series Tokarski had a better SV%.  I don't really buy the 'in their heads' stuff - if Tokarski was performing better, even in a small sample, why wouldn't that get into their heads just as much?  I doubt NHL players care who the goalie is at this point.

I feel you. I don't think you have to be worried about the Rangers beating either the Kings or Hawks in the SCF.

I've already explained it.  There was an inner confidence that was missing, though it was growing each game.  It takes a while with a new goalie.  The team didn't look the same, to me didn't feel the same without Price.  I'm guessing both teams felt it too.

They didn't look particularly good when Price was in net in game 1. It wasn't the goaltending that caused them to not look the same, it was the opponent.

No, game 1 was all about still living off the Boston high - they looked terrible and Price injured for half the game.  I never said goaltending was the problem, Tokarski was excellent.  But it didn't matter how great he was, the team lost their mojo when Price went down...there's not a lot of time to regain it.

What do you have against Dominic Moore?

He's a plug, ex-leaf...his face, y'know the usual.

Oh, it seemed like there was something more to it than that since he was the one you singled out as the one player you didn't want to see score.

"Mojo" is a pretty lame excuse but the minute Price went down, we knew that his injury would be the go to excuse for habs fans.

He also just came back from sabbatical after losing his wife to cancer.  It's hard not to root for a guy like that...

He's also not a plug.  Averaged close to 2:00 PK time per game on the 3rd ranked PK unit in the league.

71% on faceoffs in the series.

That's...extremely good.
