Game 13 - Leafs @ Bluejackets - Thursday November 3rd, 2011 - 19:00 EST - 4-1 W

Its too bad we don't have that thread from last year regarding Kessel.  I think cw and I went on for a week about whether or not Kessel was progressing or regressing.  I know I was firmly wrong.

So far the Leafs have done a good job at helping other teams with their problems. For example, Winipeg had not scored a power play goal until they met the Leafs and then they scored two. Then there was Boston who was not averaging more than two goals scored per game until they met the Leafs who gave them six.

Columbus cannot seem to win (2-9-1). I think this game is another opportunity for the Leafs to help a team in a slump. I say Columbus will win 5-2 and Kessel's slump will continue tonight and set him up nicely for a run and hide show against Boston on Saturday night.

I do not know why I am down on the Leafs this morning, but I think it will all be justified soon enough if they do not change some things.

Kessel's in a slump?

After scoring 10 goals in the first 10 games he has 0 in the past 2.    ;D

Well he did have 2 points last night, if that constitutes the extent of Kessel's "slumps" this year sign me up.

And he should have scored in the 3rd when Brodeur made that ridiculous stick save.

Kessel was flying for most of the second half of that game.

Both Scott Hartnell and Jaromir Jagr did not have a goal before they played the Leafs.  They both scored twice.

Adam Larsson did not have a point prior to last night.  He registered his first point against the Leafs.

It's been happening since last year and I've read it from numerous people.  The Leafs have been slump busters.  Pretty sure last year (or was it the year before?) Steve Sullivan scored his first goal after being out a year against us too.

Well there is a slight difference between a player on a team breaking out of a slump, and an entire roster (sans their #1 Center).

For a player like Jagr to break a slump (what was it 6 or 7 games for an NHL all time great?) it requires a few Leaf players to have a momentary lapse once or twice in the game, or the player to make an amazing play for the slump to be broken.

When it comes to W's it would take most of the Leaf roster over the entire game to lapse or Columbus to play way over their heads (they do after all only have 2 W's and a goal differential of -12) without Carter for them to break their slump.

I don't see them as being directly equatable scenarios, and have confidence the Leafs stand a very good chance of winning against the worst team in the NHL.

When was the last time he had a 4-point game?  It's been ages.

OCT 8 '11 OTT @ TOR
FEB 24 '11 TOR @ MTL

Some might say 4 pts games are proof of his 'inconsistency' because he doesn't do it every game ....  ;D

Columbus will not be stuck with 2 wins the rest of the year.  They will win again.

Antoine Vermette still doesn't have a goal this year.  Umberger only has 1.  I'm betting at least one of those guys score.

James Reimer one of a few Leafs skating this morning in Columbus. No indication yet on whether he'll play.

I have heard that Scrivens is still around. Very strange this business with reimer - very cloak and dagger.

I don't think it's anything unusual. He's got an injury and they don't know exactly when he'll be fully healed. I don't there's any sinister intentions here.

i think the leafs win this one ..and will then be holding my breath to see if they can do the same on saturday...but yeah..they might even kill a penalty

Luke schenn getting extra work this morning. He's a possible healthy scratch tonight after playing only 10 mins in new jersey.

Ron Wilson did say that Reimer was "gassed" after morning skate yesterday and said he'd have no problem going back to Gustavsson tonight. That was after the game last night and seems the likely scenario tonight.

Well, Reimer is still on the IR officially, so, without Scrivens, if Reimer's not ready, the Leafs only have 1 healthy goalie. Not exactly very cloak and dagger at all. In fact, while the Leafs may not have been particularly accurate as to when Reimer will return, they've been very much forthright with information about him.

Can we just start Scrivens if Reimer isn't ready?  Back to back for Gustavsson again in less than a week?

If Reimer can't go tonight, I'd really like to see Scrivens play, I watched him quite a bit on the farm last season and would like to see what he can do at the NHL level. Worst case is he gets shelled, but he is young and can learn what he needs to improve on for the NHL level, I think he is ready for this step, to get a NHL game or two.

Do we have an extra Dman in Columbus? Franson travelled with the team, right?
