Luke schenn getting extra work this morning. He's a possible healthy scratch tonight after playing only 10 mins in new jersey.

Do we have an extra Dman in Columbus? Franson travelled with the team, right?

He is on the roster so I would say yes he did.

Ron Wilson did say that Reimer was "gassed" after morning skate yesterday and said he'd have no problem going back to Gustavsson tonight. That was after the game last night and seems the likely scenario tonight.

If Reimer can't go tonight, I'd really like to see Scrivens play, I watched him quite a bit on the farm last season and would like to see what he can do at the NHL level. Worst case is he gets shelled, but he is young and can learn what he needs to improve on for the NHL level, I think he is ready for this step, to get a NHL game or two.

I think it's better for the team play as well.  It's a back to back and naturally players are tired and *could* be less focused on the game given that:
a) they just won and have a good record
b) Columbus has a bad record so Leafs might take them lightly.

With Scrivens in net, the players might be more focused on details because they want to win one for the rookie.  It's human nature, I say put Scrivens in and let's see what happens.

Just heard on the radio (Millard and McLean) that Gus is starting and Scrivens is the backup.

Going to be 2 weeks this Saturday... and I find it extremely doubtful Reimer will be playing that game if he isn't backing up tonight.

Fan590 has said that Gus is in for sure.

I think anything the Leafs say regarding injuries = a steaming pile
of you-know-what.

Seems like a perfect night to give Gus a break and Scrivens a turn. I don't get it but whatever...

I don't get it either.  Why play Gustavsson back to back again?  He's not exactly the hottest goalie in the league at the moment that would warrant that workload.

It's all smoke and mirrors... get Columbus to watch Goose tapes all day then they take the ice and see Scrivens in net.  Ho ho!

So Columbus has the 28th ranked PP.  How many PP goals will they get tonight, I say at least 2.

1 goal between Vermette and Umberger.

At least 1 of them is scoring a PP goal tonight.

I just don't know why Gus is the only one that can play with Reimer hurt.  The Monster is awful by all statistical measures.  He is lucky the leafs score goals the way they do.

Seriously Ron Wilson, look at the numbers:  3.61 GAA .886 SV%.  I can't imagine Scrivens would be this bad in 7 games.  I get it, he is the backup and he has a contract, but the dude can't stop pucks well, has terrible positioning and gives up juicy rebounds.

Currently, The Monster is a very below average goaltender, and it seems like it would take a lot of work to get him to improve.  He has no idea where the post is once he leaves the crease.

I agree. Gus makes amazing desperation saves and pretty much any saves that require abilities like reflexes but when it comes to being Allaire-like shot blocker he is totally lost. He hasn't gotten better at it since he came. In fact, he has gotten worse.

from TSN Ice Chips-

'G James Reimer took the morning skate in Columbus along with G Ben Scrivens, D Luke Schenn, D Cody Franson, F Jay Rosehill and F Colton Orr. - TSN '

Is that an indication that Schenn might be scratched in favour of Franson?

I do not know why I am down on the Leafs this morning, but I think it will all be justified soon enough if they do not change some things.

This morning?

Obviously I don't know you well enough, but this strikes me as a personal reverse psychology. You don't want to whip yourself up into a frenzy of hope and would rather expect the worst so that you'll be surprised by a positive outcome...

Showing confidence in Gustavsson?  I dunno I'm grasping at straws here.  If Scrivens can't play against the current worst team in the league, when can he play?

It seems that you know me well enough.

I do not know how to be a half way fan. Last year I had some serious things going on in my life and hockey was not even in the top 100 of things that mattered to me so I hardly watched a single minute all year long. But by the playoffs I was back on track in life and I watched all the playoff games - so no Leafs of course.

For this year I do find myself obsessing in my usual ways. I have been to 3 games so far, I watch every single minute of the game (even record the ones I go to) and I want so much to be excited about this team and enjoy a nice playoff drive.... but I am not willing to buy it just yet. You are quite right Joe, I find it easier to be down on them and then be surprised when it goes the other way. Funny how being a Leafs fan for too long can do that to ya.  ;)
