Game 21: Canadiens @ Leafs, 7:30PM, TSN, TSN 1050

Good way to cap the game off...get the extra man and then rush it up the side of the ice with all the Habs players and give it away

Okay that's the wrong call by every ref on the ice to not blow that play dead.

76.6 Violations ? If a center should move prematurely prior to the face-off, or if the Referee or Linesman shall have dropped the puck unfairly, the face-off shall be considered a face-off violation and it must be conducted again.

...

Face-off violations shall be summarized as follows (any of the four on-ice officials may identify a face-off violation):

...

(iv)  Failure by either center taking the face-off to properly position himself behind the restraining lines or place his stick on the ice (as outlined in Rule 76.4). "Properly position himself behind the restraining lines" shall mean that the center must place his feet on either side of the restraining lines that are parallel to the side boards (contact with the lines is permissible), and the toe of the blade of his skates must not cross over the restraining lines that are perpendicular to the side boards as he approaches the face-off spot.

The blade of the stick must then be placed on the ice (at least the toe of the blade of the stick) in the designated white area of the face-off spot and must remain there until the puck is dropped.

Failure to comply with this positioning and face-off procedure will result in a face-off violation.

Guess it matters less with that 4th goal, but still, brutal call.

I did enjoy the "don't tell me how to do my job" look on the face of the linesman as he skated away from Bozak/Carlyle.  Apparently you do need to be told how to do it because you suck at it.  Your job is dropping a puck and calling offsides.  Is that honestly a difficult task to know those rules?

In general the Leafs looked pretty disjointed.  I think the Kadri line was yet again the Leafs best line.  At some point you have to recognize his production and actually reward him with 1st PP time and not having an oaf on his line.

Boggles my mind how all 4 officials missed that . Was rather obvious. On obvious bad judgement calls they should be held accountable.

This game has to be attributed in significant respect to Randy's inability/unwillingness to make adjustments.  This Orr fascination with guys like Van Reim and Kessel sitting on the bench is complete insanity.  Get Kadri and Mac out there with Kessel for frick sake.

Kessel really hasn't stepped up this year.

Too many nights he looks disinterested. Loads of talent but leaves it at home far too often but to be fair to him the way Carlyle uses his lines I'm sure that can deflate you.

Bozak and Kessel with a cool -4 on the night. Kadri +1.

He's been by far the team's most consistent player this year.

Edit: Uncanny - Fraser at +2.

I thought the Leafs were flat in the first but that bad penalty call took away any chance at regaining momentum. I thought they came on a little stronger in the third and made it an interesting game. Scrivens blew it at the end.

Montreal played a better game, but they also got all of the breaks. Considering all the bullcrap we've been seeing from the linesmen on face offs this year, that puck drop was inexcusable.

Leafs came out hitting everything in sight trying to make a statement and bully the Habs again, instead of just using their speed and letting their tough game just play itself out.  It was a pathetic effort, glad its over.

The top line manages to bag a -4 with only 15 minutes of ice time.  Impressive!!

Bring up gardiner!

Ya that's another thing that blows my mind. With all the hype about this kid and not letting him go in any trades because how good he looked this year he can't crack the lineup with the likes of Holzer, Kostka and Fraser in. Maybe theres more to his concussion but if not I don't get it. Hope they don't ruin the kid.

Leafs probably didn't deserve to win tonight, but, it would have been nice if the refs hadn't had as much of a hand in it as they did.

Despite the result I think Carlyle is doing it right. You want icetime you work hard and earn it. Yeah at -4 Bozak and Kessel really should have received more time??

Deflection off Bozak, incorrect face-off procedure, poor goal by Scrivens to allow to Pacioretty, and empty netter.  Good ol' +/-

It's nice for Fraser to be on for so many goals for though.

Nice to see Kessel giggling in the penalty box, though.  He's not going to let it get him down!

And yeah, Holzer has been consistently weak.  Time to see Gardiner.

I think he could've given Kadri another passing option.  He managed to connect with Mac the one time but with no other option the Habs shut him down after that.

Given the way the refs and everyone else played though the team was probably doomed. The game was over when Pacioretty sniped one, we needed that from Kessel or Grabbo and they came up empty.
