Game 48: NYI @ TOR - Jan 23 - 7:00pm LEAFSTV

Wow, give Gus credit for holding the fort and setting up the killer goal by Lombardi.

First time he's really been seriously tested tonight, but, yeah, he came up big there. For the first two periods, it looked like he could nap his way to the win.

Now we can start debating who should start tomorrow night....  I'm never a fan of the same guy playing 2 nights in a row, but Gus has had an easy night tonight except for a couple of flurries.  So I dunno.

EDIT: Well said Busta.  I might be tempted to run him again tomorrow.

So, I guess we can safely say that Lombardi has finally woken up.

Dude missed a full year with a concussion... Probably rushed his training camp, then missed 20 or so games with an injury.  Was obviously going to take some time.

Id like to see him next year after getting his feet back back, a full offseason and in a contract year.  I could see him giving us MacArthur 2010-11 performance-ish.

I'm a proponent of always going back to the guy who just posted a shut out, no matter how difficult it may or may not have been. Gus goes tomorrow - especially with the break coming up.

Agreed. Gus needs to start tomorrow. The fact that he wasn't particularly overworked tonight should make that an easier decision.

Hard to argue with that.  (Although it would be sweet to see Reimer get a win to boost his confidence a little.)

Man, Tavares really is stuck on the Island, isn't he?  Butch Goring on MSG had it right: Leafs gameplan was to smother him, keep him to outside.  And they did.  This is the kind of defensive game they should have turned in against MTL.

Part of the reason they were able to shut him down was because Wilson used his last change to get the Grabs/Phaneuf unit out there against him at all times. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out tomorrow on the road.
