I dont go to a game to have a chat, I go to a game to watch and cheer, and the louder the better. its just what sports is all about.

Cheering everything makes cheering a meaningless act. Things should be cheered when they're good, which is where the word actually comes from.

You don't need to go to a game to make a ton of noise. Scream yourself hoarse in your bathroom if you like. If you're going to leave the house, you might not want to look and sound like a crazy person.

So chanting go Leafs go, to rile up your team is meaningless. hmmmm, maybe you are getting old and cranky. ;D

I was at some big games during the jays hay day and if the fans were quiet it would not have been as fun, so noise does play a big part. that is fact, it may not help your team win but it makes it worth your money in enjoyment.

Rile means to annoy or irritate. While I know you take great joy in annoying and irritating posters on these boards, I don't think it's a great thing to do to a hockey team you want to win.

so chanting go Leafs go is not trying to give them an edge. ?????  I would think it would get there blood pumping.

You'd be more wrong than right. To the players, it mostly becomes indecipherable white noise. It pumps up the fans, but, it doesn't do much of anything for the guys on the ice. Their focus is on what's happening on the ice, not what's going on in the stands. You could chant any 3 single short words and it would have the same level of impact.

And dude I am a fan of the Leafs not a whinner, of all that gos wrong with them. I look for the good in things, not the bad. It should not bother other posters to hear the positive, and if is does then there to far gone, and should go watch tennis or bowling or something.

still with the place chanting it will pump the home team somewhat.

Any three words, nutman. Any three words. The impact is has on the players is so minimal that it may as well not exist.

I've been to dozens of sporting events, and I also know that, to the players on the field/ice/court, the content of those chants is completely indecipherable. "Go Leafs Go" sounds the same and "Row Your Boat" to them.

when fans get loud, home team players tend to get pumped by it. and to think any diff you are just being blind to it.

No, the fans just perceive that. The noise doesn't motivate the home team any more than it motivates the visiting team. It's not a matter of thinking anything, it's what I know. The guys involved in the game are so focused on the game that they barely hear anything outside of that.

Now, right here, this is some optimism.
