Getting Out Shot Every Night!!!

For anyone who might be interested, let me explain what "trolling" means in the context of a board like this.

It can mean a fan of another team who posts solely to provoke negative reactions.  But it also means someone who posts entirely negatively no matter what his/her fan allegiance is.  The reason that's trolling is because the whole value of a fan message board like this is to try to have an intelligent, relatively balanced discussion of the pros and cons of the team.  Hammering incessantly away at what the poster perceives are the negatives of the team doesn't add value because it doesn't promote a discussion that leads to a better understanding of the team.  Every team has both strengths and weaknesses.  Focusing solely the former is being a fanboy/girl, focusing on the latter is being a troll.

Man, a coach gets a team to the playoffs for the first time  in 9 years and he's getting fired after losing game one...Sheesh.

Last year under Wilson, at the 48 game mark, we had 53 points. We've improved by 4 points.

We scored 148 goals and gave up 142 for a +6. This year we scored 145 goals and gave up 133 for a +12.

This includes the vastly superior PK of this year, so it's likely we've had the same amount of goals scored 5on5.

So, how much has this team improved from Ron Wilson to Randy Carlyle? We know the PK has been a massive improvement, but what else?

We all know what happened to that Leafs team last year - they had a playoff spot for half the season, then completely tanked the second half and finished in the bottom of the league standings.

The same thing was shaping up to happen this year, too, but the shortened season saved us from that. Now we watch as we get knocked out in 4 with ease by the Bruins, and everyone will say "It's the Bruins.. if it was anyone else, we would have been better... It's playoff jitters.. it's.. it's...".

The team sucks. Team Defense is utterly garbage, but that's like a loop. We say the same thing year after year after year. Team D is horrendous. Team D is atrocious. Team D, Team D.. and it's never fixed.

This team needs an overhaul.

People will spit on this reply and me most likely - but I guarantee you we aren't in a playoff spot next season.

And yet, here we sit, in the playoffs (without selling the farm for experienced veterans) while other teams like the Oilers, with abundantly more talent than the Leafs, miss out again. I take it you realize that this is a process that doesn't happen in one or two seasons?

Another overhaul will have fans like yourself critiquing the exact same things in two or three years time, while patient teams like the Oilers will be busy winning playoff rounds.

Let me just say that the term "troll" seems to vary in definition from person to person.

Tyler Bozak was the first number one centre to get this team into the playoffs in 9 years and most people want him gone.

He was the only player doing anything positive last night, other than Reimer.

JVR was better than either of them.  Reimer had an off-night.  Wasn't the problem, but was an off-night.

Yeah, I forgot about JVR. Although he started strong and then went invisible, like everyone else. I compliment Bozak strictly on doing well against Bergeron on faceoffs.

And I actually thought Reimer played pretty well, other than that one long-distance shot.

Take the bad goal away from Reimer, and a little luck on the post hit by JVR and/or breakaway chance by Bozak and the final score doesn't look so bad.  Yes they were outplayed but the doom and gloom today from a lot of Leafs fans is a bit over the top.  Hopefully they win game 2 and it'll get everyone back on the bandwagon.

Yeah he certainly wasn't bad or anything, but the SV% (.900) is lower than he's typically put up this season.  So we didn't see him at that level in game 1.

For those of you not too fond of Kostka, he has a broken finger from Last nights game and is out indefinitely.

I promise you that Michael Kostka will never play another game for the Maple Leafs. This is him being allowed to sit gracefully. He is absolute garbage.

Other players who are playing their last games as Leafs:

MacArthur, Clarke

Liles, Jean-Michael

Bozak, Tyler

Patrce Bergeron is a prime example of tilting puck possession in the Bruins favour. You'll see him consistently winning battles along the boards and he's tops in the league at winning faceoffs. Plus he's a terrific two-way player, like a star version of McClement.

Read this stat on Twitter last night:

At 5v5 since 2010, when Bergeron/Chara are on the ice together, the Bruins have outscored the opposition 74-25.

That's impressive.

That's remarkable.

Those two are definitely the heart and soul of their team.

That's a product of this team.

They possess very weak if not non-existent board work, which includes cycling in and out of our zone. This type of play encourages possession of the puck, helps establish offensive zone setup, and makes it easier for a team to play defense, since shoveling it along the boards will become an option you can control. It is also a major part of playing dump and chase, since most every dump is no doubt followed by a battle along the boards.

The Leafs don't have this, which leads to giveaways, low offensive zone time, low puck possession time, hemmed in our own zone and so on and so forth.

We saw all this come together tonight against a team that plays that style so much better than we do.

The unfortunate thing is that it's not fixable without bringing in new players, so it's unlikely to change in the course of the last 3 games we have remaining.

Jesus you are a troll thru and thru. If you really believe that we're gonna get swept why not just call it a year and stop posting. Your negativity is boggling and your view of the team is sadly skewed to the far left.

I call it like I see it. Watching the Ottawa game? That's why we had to draw Montreal.

HaHaHaHa I thought the same exact thing.

Aren't you guys being a bit hard on Kostka? It's not like he's not doing his best. It's not his fault Carlyle is insane and keeps trotting him out there for 20 minutes a night.
