Is it possible to win with 2 goalies getting equal time?  Yes but it is more volatile and has potential to create problems and ruin team chemistry.

Well, considering we've named 3 of the last 6 and 4 of the last 8 cup winners it's not just possible, it seems to be no less of an effective strategy. I don't think it's true that it could "ruin team chemistry" but even if it is the trade-off is that if you bank everything on one goalie you leave yourself vulnerable to one significant injury derailing you entirely. Right now, with neither guy having proved himself capable of true #1 status over the course of a full season, there's no need to risk that. There'll be opportunity for both guys, though, to actually earn that spot as the season progresses.

Amen.

Message to Dave Nonis and Randy Carlyle. Wake up. All of us can see what has been the problem with this team for a long time. Address it please.

Seriously. Work on those 190 footers for pete's sake.

Nik and can go for Bender as well. Seriously you guys pleased with the way this team has played? They have been outplayed I think in probably every game. The record is great but the problem that has plagued this team for the last 5 years is still with us and that's poor D. I have mentioned it before and players have changed but we give up way too many good scoring chances , too many giveaways and we are getting outshot most nights and not by 3 or 4 shots. If it wasn't for Bernier or Reimer we could easily be 2-6. To win in this league you have to play a somewhat tight game and that is non existent with this team. The writing was on the wall after the Boston blowup but if you guys recall the team didn't play any different in the regular season but we managed to win a lot of those 1 goal games but again I would say it was due to Reimer. Can't rely on these 2 all the time. Ya you can have the odd night off but way to frequent. Far as I'm concerned Nonis hasn't addressed this and if that's the team Carlyle wants then get them to start playing a more complete game otherwise it's going to be no different than last years ending.

I think, as always, that there are areas the team can improve on but I also think that they are improving in those areas and that, so long as they're generally effective in terms of winning games(and absent two kind of flukey goals tonight I think they'd have done it again) I'm not going to pretend that it's a catastrophe either.

Agreed Nik, the obvious is right there, when we've played fifteen games and the glaring mistakes are still there, then it may be time to pull a trigger. I'm impressed with the kidz who've come up and played well with an idea of what they can work on for getting to the next level....and, five regulars out of the line-up, it's a good time to check out the depth.
staying positive thru it for now. GoLeafsGo

Bernier played it as if it was an icing, I'm not sure he knew the other official negated the call. Apparently it was the right call under the circumstances, but that's just a terrible break and the first big strike against this "judgement" icing rule. Touch or no-touch, pick one.

As for the Reimer/Leivo incident, poor Leivo is coming in hard trying to backcheck and didn't have quite enough time to dodge Reimer. I will say that there's no way that shot should've ended up as such a rebound that Reimer had to dive into oncoming traffic to corral it, but there you go.

He should also protect his freakin' head more in these situations, he had to know there were bodies coming. You see a lot of goalies go near-fetal in that situation, head turtled by their glove and blocker along the ice. Reimer should probably look into that.

I think it was just an 'unlucky' game for the Leafs, what with everything that happened -- the Leivo/Reimer collision, Bernier 'misjudging' the hybrid icing play, etc.

One of those games.  One of those things.
Hope Reimer will be alright.  Should he not, then whoever takes his place as the backup will need to be solid.  Bernier will also have his work out out for him.

The game sucked. Bernier lost that game. Yes I said it. He did not play well.... I hope Reimer is not too badly hurt cause we are going to need him. I cant wait til Frasers back, cause Gardiner sucks. And yes I said that.

So we start 6-1, have an off game and now it's a generalized anger towards our coaching and GM even though we're riddled with injuries?

Does not compute.

There's probably been more "off games" than solid 60 minute performances from the team.  Which games would you say the Leafs were the better team?  I'm not complaining about being 6-2, but to say this has been one off game doesn't mesh with reality.  Probably in 5 of the games the other team has been better overall - obviously that doesn't always translate on the scoresheet, but I don't think it's something you can repeat over an 82-game season (or not something you want to attempt to do anyways).  The Leafs have some injury troubles, so it's not like it's totally unexpected they wouldn't be playing at their best, but they haven't played well overall in many games to start the season.

Hopefully that bodes well for the team having this record and having not played their best hockey at all.

That's a lot of pronouncements.

Just saw the highlites. Brutal goal, wtf was Bernier thinking?

Which goal has been worse -- this one, the one Quick gave up, or the one Luongo was quick stepping?  Some pretty brutal goals early in the season here.

Oh well, the end result sucked. I only saw the last 4 mins (listened on the radio a bit while driving home after daughter's game) and well, lady luck wasn't on their side tonight.

On a happier note, daughter's team won 5-4 and she scored 2 goals! 8)

Could she play for the Leafs until JVR is back??  :)

That game was very sloppy for both teams.  It was almost like there were problems with the ice as pucks were bouncing, passes were horrid and even players and officials were stumbling/falling.

I told my son when the Leafs were out shooting the Canes in the 1st that I was worried for the Leafs as they were so laid back.  At the end of the 2nd, up 2-0 I told him I thought the Leafs were going to lose as they were just not clicking.

I feel it was simply a bad game for the Leafs but they can pull it together.
