Jays closing in deal for David Price?

Fair Price. Hope we can re-sign him for a few more years, as he's been a Jay killer.

Didn't Boyd get blown up (didn't get an out) in front of friends and family at the Rogers Centre? I'm sad to see Van Man go, but on the baseball side of things, yay-ish!

Its a 100% retrospect deal. If Price leads them to the World Series and they win, worth the deal. If they miss the playoffs and Price goes elsewhere, then who is going to pitch for us next year?  Stroman, Hutch, Estrada ????
I think we could definitely look at trading Encarnacion for some more pitching.

AA has hoarded enough prospects over the last while that he could afford to make moves like he did.  We've been screaming for him to go all in in a year when the playoffs are quite attainable and the division is (was?) ripe for the taking, so I give AA credit for being ballsy.

In the end, Price may re-sign elsewhere and these moves may not give them a single playoff game.  But knowing that within the last year the Jays' acquisitions will result in the team being able to build around Donalson, Tulowitzki and Martin for at least the next few years, I can live with it.

Sanchez will be in the mix. And Dickey/Buehrle leaving will free up a ton of money.

Other than Price then, is there a decent crop of free agent pitching?

And I'm a little pissed off at the fact that I want to watch Jays games even more now, and they take up so much time.

I agree, AA has the balls and did what he had to do. He has put together a massive hitting machine and yes they had to go for it pitching wise.  I think AA should stay for a few more years whatever happens.

There could be, yeah. Cueto, that guy in Chicago whose name I can't spell properly - Smardi . . . something; and, as always, a bunch of mid-rotation types, too.

I recall Stroman said he wanted to be ready to pitch in September. Then I didn't hear a thing, any word on when he may be back as it could certainly with Price added be a very interesting last month to the season?

And just so I'm clear, no chance Stroman returns for September?

It's possible, but I expect the team to err on the side of caution. They won't bring him back unless he's absolutely 100%.

That would mean Dickey would be pitching every 4th game which is a bit scary. He has the odd good game but not what he was as a pitcher a few years back.

Hopefully the Jays can get Price signed to an extension, otherwise I think the price of this deal is a little steep. I'm not completely sold on Norris, especially watching him struggle this year in Buffalo, but I'd hate to lose 3 pitching prospects for a 2 month rental of David Price.

There has to be a big shakeup coming with the rotation anyway though as Buehrle, Dickey, Estrada and now Price could all be gone after this season leaving Stroman, Hutchison and perhaps Osuna as part of the 2016 starters.
Not necessarily a bad thing as the Jays do need to get younger at the position, but will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in the off-season.

This deal MAY be enough to get the Jays that 2nd Wildcard spot with the Twins slipping a bit. Everyone should keep in mind that K.C., L.A. and Houston have also added help at the deadline and the Yanks have a pretty decent lead in the division. Time will tell, but being a .500 ballclub with 60 games to go doesn't exactly scream playoff team. I honestly don't see the Jays doing any better than being the road team in a 1 game playoff come October, but hey you get in the playoffs anything can happen.

I'm not a Dickey fan, the guy has lost 10+ games all 3 seasons he has been a Jay coming off a Cy Young (albeit in the NL).
I will begrudgingly say though that he has pitched well for about 6 starts in a row now, just hasn't been getting the run support prior to the Philly game.

With NYYankee pitchers  Pineda on the DL and concerns about CC Sabathia's health, if AA hadn't signed David Price, there may have been a good chance for the Yankees to take him.

Guess AA won the chess match.
