Jays closing in deal for David Price?

The deadline is 4PM today.  Doesn't look like AA is quite done yet...

"Right now we?re working on some small things,? Anthopoulos said Thursday.

What exactly? Anthopoulos isn?t one to tip his hand, but he said Thursday that he?s already had numerous discussions on a lot of starting pitchers. It?s possible he could circle back and revive the discussions that had to be set aside while completing the Price deal.

?Two things get deals done,? Anthopoulos said. ?Deadlines and momentum.?

That would mean Dickey would be pitching every 4th game which is a bit scary. He has the odd good game but not what he was as a pitcher a few years back.

I'm not a Dickey fan, the guy has lost 10+ games all 3 seasons he has been a Jay coming off a Cy Young (albeit in the NL).
I will begrudgingly say though that he has pitched well for about 6 starts in a row now, just hasn't been getting the run support prior to the Philly game.

It's more than 6 starts.  Over his last 11 starts dating back to June he has a 2.96 ERA in 73 innings (6.04 K/9, 2.96 BB/9, 0.62 HR/9)

One guy to look out for later in August/September might be the return of Dalton Pompey to save us from Colabello's defense and Ezequiel Carerra's everything.  He was rushed to the majors and wasn't ready to start the year.  He went to AAA and struggled.  Since his demotion to AA his stat line has been:

AA - 31 GP 311 AB .351/.405/.545/.950

He has since been recalled to AAA with a line of: 14 GP 58 AB .379/.471/.534/1.006

I don't think the Jays should rush to get him back on the roster but they might have an internal upgrade in the outfield (certainly defensively at least).

What's going on with Saunders? Is he done for the season?

Here's what he said recently:

The Jays are apparently in talks to get Ben Revere from the Phillies, so I guess they're not super enthusiastic about the possibility of Saunders contributing this season.

There's been some comments by fans that have seen Pompey in Buffalo that he doesn't look comfortable defensively, for whatever reason.

Apparently price blew a tire on the way to Toronto. I'm not in the twitter and I had to have this translated for my out of touch old self. Apparently the '6' is Toronto. Had no idea.

Yeah, I think the 6ix is a reference to Toronto and it's 416 area code.

Its a reference Drake uses in his new album.  He calls it the six because of the the original 6 municipalities got rolled into Toronto.  Hence the album being called "Views from the Six"

In a way, you're both right. Drake does use the term, but I don't think he's specified why. Both the area code and amalgamation explanations are, I believe, unsubstantiated.

I like how they have set Price up.  He's not starting until Monday but it sets him up for two starts against the Yankees in the next two weeks.

Danny Valencia and Ezequiel Carrera were DFA'd to make room for the new acquisitions.  I'm surprised by the Valencia move.  While not ideal you could give him innings in LF, 3B and 2B if needed.

Kawasaki gets promoted to give backup duties in the infield.

The Jays are going to run with their needlessly large 8-man bullpen including the struggling Aaron Loup.  Loup and Schultz both have options and they could have avoided losing Valencia by using those options and brought them back up in September when rosters expand.

I think DFA'ing Valencia is just a reflection that a lot of the at-bats he was getting will now be Colabello's. Considering the offense they'll be getting elsewhere I'm fine with having someone like Kawasaki around to get those 2B/3B emergency innings if necessary.

I guess, but if something happens to Donaldson, at least Valencia can sub in adequately at 3B and still not be a liability offensively.

On the other side of the trade, nice debut for Norris in the Old English D. 1 run on 4 hits.
