Kings @ Leafs - Dec. 11th, 7:30pm - TSN, TSN 1050

Even though they didn't score on the 5-on-4, they did a good job keeping the pressure on. This has been a much better 2nd period but they are still giving LA too much time with the puck. They need to forecheck more aggressively.

It's probably too much to say that pairing Rielly and Gardiner has ignited the Leafs' long-lost skating game, but I'll say it anyway.

I really like Rielly on the right side. Keep those two together, put Phaneuf back with Gunnarsson when he returns, and have Franson play the right side with Liles/Fraser/Ranger. Maybe try and play more than a couple of games with the same defence unit for a change too.

randynumbers: #Leafs are about to do something they haven't been able to do all season: outshoot their opponent in both the 1st AND 2nd periods of game.

Clarkson is one of the worst players who's selfish with the puck. You have to be kidding me.

In reference to the 2 on 1 with Raymond? I thought: well, no way he's making that (or any) pass, so whatevs. Whaddaya expect for $5.25m?

By far the best game they have played all season (thus far, anyway).

It's amazing how much holding and hooking and interfering LA does (reminds me of Boston too); it was good to finally see them penalized for it. Hopefully TO can play like this for the 3rd.

Yeah that 2-on-1 was terrible. He might not have been able to make a pass but who skates into the middle and lets the back checkers catch up like that? Just shoot. He has zero offensive instincts.

He's very frustrating to watch, especially with Raymond.  I feel like whatever advantage Raymond's speed gives him, it is offset by his lack of creativity in the offensive zones.  He goes in very straight lines, is the best I can describe it.  But for $1 million, no complaints.

That is amazing.

I was just about to ask how many times they have outshot an opponent in 2 consecutive periods ... I didn't think it was going to be 0 (at least 0 in the first and second)

Man this is gonna be a big third.

Franson Gardner on the pp looked good.

What is this blasphemy of Gardiner and Reilly playing the same game?

I recollect saying at the end of last season they should've done that, if only to keep Phaneuf fresh for all those other minutes. But captain needs his points, I guess.

I really hope Carlyle strongly considers keeping Gardiner on the top unit when Phaneuf returns. Dion's done nothing on the powerplay all season long and it will give him an opportunity to lower his minutes a bit.

Yup. And, it could keep Franson on the 3rd pairing at even strength, which is where he was most effective last season.

Good first 7 mins in the 3rd too.

This is one of those games where, if the team were playing well and ended up losing this one on some fluky bounce, you could shrug your shoulders and say oh well.  But we really need to win this one.
