Leafs Announce Training Camp Roster

We signed Brad Boyes for $100k less than what Ottawa signed Fraser for. Now granted, Fraser's is a 2-way deal and it seems like he's AHL-bound, but that's still nuts. How does Fraser get anything above league minimum at this point?

Just ridiculous money given to Fraser if he plays in the NHL, however, they'll likely have him play in Binghamton most of the season.  He'll likely be called up for certain teams.  Just a guess on my part.

The Leafs sign the Fraser replacement in Andrew Campbell, creeping back up to 47 contracts.

Campbell likely a Marlie, or, a warm bum in the pressbox, instead of one of our legitimate prospects.

Yes.  Dubas referred to him as an "organizational depth guy"

It's a head scratcher, former Soo Greyhound.

Hot Stove says "Marlies veteran presence that can be called up."

They had already signed him to an AHL deal, but they signed him to an NHL deal so that they could call him up.  Sounds like they really want the prospects to stay down there.

Yeah. They clearly don't want to yo-yo them. Keep them down there until there are long-term opportunities with the big team. Guys like Campbell will get the one or two game fill-in type call ups.

I always kind of figured that exposure was something that could be a factor in a player deciding to try-out here. Neat to see it confirmed from a player directly. I'm betting that's why Fraser signed one here too.

Yeah, Dubas has previously mentioned Stuart Percy specifically and criticized his own handling of Percy.  Said it wasn't good for him to be up and down a number of times so that's something he would be trying to change.

The JVR-Bozak pairing might not be making it out of training camp, lines today per Jonas Siegel:

van Riemsdyk-Kadri-Winnik
Matthias-Bozak-Lupul
Komarov-Holland-Boyes

Has Parenteau been that bad that he's not even getting a look in the top 6? I haven't been following camp closely at all but every time I see a line combo Parenteau is usually on the 3rd or 4th line.

Big question is...Are they going to send their best forward at camp this year back to the Marlies, or will Nylander make the team?

It's blatantly obvious that they have no intention of having him start with the Leafs.

When Winnik is your first line right winger:

As it stands now, it does looks that way, and I hope this administration practices what it preaches. In years past, Nylander would have been a slam dunk to make the club with the camp he is having.

Sure, but in years past, the team was focused on the present. This group seems to be quite clearly focused on the future - the near future, maybe, but the future nonetheless.

There's a lot you can criticize the Leafs for in the past but putting players who are pretty clearly ready for the NHL on the team probably isn't one of them.

I agree. Lets hope they follow through... and for the long haul!

You've twisted that around to compose an argument, but ok.

I mean, unless you're saying that teams in the past would have been right to keep Nylander up in the NHL, I think that was pretty sound.

Parenteau has been brutal. I don't recall saying to myself "Wow, that guy gives away the puck more than he completes passes" in a long, long time.
