As Hope_Smoke on twitter points out, TSN.ca's roster lists Bozak too: http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/feature/?id=63060

That's hilarious. Has there ever been an international mystery the magnitude of "Is Bozak on Team Canada's world championship roster?"

It's right up there with the true identity of the Zodiac killer.

Oh my god, it was Bozak!

I question the validity of the story. It lists Mark Scheifele as one of the players. He's been out of the Jets lineup for a month with a season ending knee injury. On the WC team now? I highly doubt it.....

He's healthy now and has been confirmed:

So apparently Bozak is there because TSN based the roster off of what Dreger/LeBrun had been hearing, but Bozak's name had just been discussed and is not officially announced as on the team yet (this is according to @SWhyno).

Initial 20-man roster has been announced - Reimer, Kadri, Rielly are the Leafs on it.  No Bozak, for now anyways.

Full roster (so far): http://stats.hockeycanada.ca/roster/show/1160884?subseason=153007

Scrivens joins Reimer in net. I'm sure that'll be a neat moment for the two of them.

Reimer's going to thank him for taking the #1 job in Edmonton before he could get traded there.

John Tavares

Tavares is still recovering from the major knee injury he suffered at the Olympics.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that none of Canada's eligible Olympians are on the team.

I forget who it was in the media who said it but apparently Hockey Canada's ability to convince guys to play at the WC's corresponds pretty closely to the host city's relative pull as a tourist destination so I don't know how shocked to be here.

edit: Although I'm sure Minsk is lovely with a rich history and vibrant culture. Hockey players though, by and large, don't tend to be the most fervent culture seekers.

I don't see how the location of a host city has any bearing on whether or not hockey players should come and play for their countries at this tournament.

Hockey Canada uses these tournaments as a springboard for players, to gauge their play and recommend them for more important tournaments down the road. I've heard that they give preferential treatment to the guys who postpone their summer holidays to come to the worlds and put on the Canadian jersey, especially players playing for their countries for the first times in their careers.

So, if you want to be noticed and play for hockey Canada again in your career, I would think its in the best interest of these guys to show up, whether they want to visit the host cities or not.

Edit: Unless your name was Crosby or Toews, I think I would frown upon guys who had no reason not to come play for their country other than the fact that they didn't like the host city.

Oh, alright. I'll break it down for you then: Hockey players are human beings.

I'm sure that has some pull for the younger guys who, as you say, haven't played internationally before but I think for the guys who have earned their international stripes it doesn't go very far. Nobody is leaving Shea Weber off a future Olympic team if he begs off the World Championships.

Funny, James Mirtle, who I know has a bit of a fanbase on here, tweeted about how he thought Canada had a strong roster this year. Maybe its is a highly-rated possession team? Somewhat in the mould of the Olympic squad, to an obvious lesser extent.

Anyway, as for Spezza, I would imagine he won't be playing for Canada anytime soon after he didn't even rate an invite to the initial Olympic camp. I thought that was ridiculous, really, even if he was never going to make the team. Spezza played for Canada at the Spengler freakin' Cup during the lockout year. He's also played at the worlds before, and was then actually turned down when he called and offered his services to the team two or three years ago, because the team (run by a few of the Oilers brass) took Nugent-Hopkins instead.

Well, that's the other thing. How many guys on that list are genuine possibilities for future Olympic or World Cup teams? Maybe the Carolina and Edmonton guys at a stretch?

Yeah, maybe Evander Kane? Maybe, maybe Giordano?
