Leafs @ Bruins - Nov. 9th, 7:00pm - CBC, SN 590

McLaren and Bodie combined played under 5 minutes. Why the heck didn't we just play with 7 defencemen again? Fraser was stapled to the bench for the last 7 minutes or so of the game. Rielly could have attained more ice-time in that span than McLaren and Bodie did all game long.

On one hand, the team is banged up, they're on the road, and they played last night.  That's a lot stacked against them.

On the other hand, if they had only come out to play in the 1st period, this might have at least made it to OT.

I can swallow this, though.  Wasn't expecting a win, glad it wasn't a bloodbath.

For sure have gone to OT without the JVR penalty

I felt that it was Ranger who is still not up to speed that cost the Leafs the game.  I really was hoping this experiment would be working out better by now with him.  Fraser played a much better game than Ranger, including passing.  I thought Smithson played well as well.

Well it was a good game over all.
But a couple of things found, Clarkson is not tough, sorry Ignla is not that tough at 36, that one, and two Dion pussed out right at the end of the game Erickson really Dion really.

But I do wonder hope someone can crosscheck someone in the head and not get a penalty " Chara". I am tired of please don't call anything on Boston.

Sorry TML fans for the rant.

Phaneuf you lazy bum.  He coasted in on that puck and it gave Boston the EN goal.  Here's an idea Carlyle.  Don't play him half the game.

Lazy might be harsh, especially considering that second point you made. And how played 27:06 last night in New Jersey with 7 defencemen on the bench is beyond me. Even with overtime it shouldn't have been that much.

I don't know.  To me there is a difference between a guy who tries to hustle but clearly doesn't have the legs.  Phaneuf never gave it a go beyond an upright coast and hope that the puck would roll too far into the zone for Boston to throw it at the net.  That to me is lazy.  It's not his fault that Carlyle overplayed him in both games but it still doesn't excuse giving up on the play like that.

Fraser and Ranger really are the two weakest links on this blueline right now though.

Fraser was just fine tonight. Ranger however is vying with Clarkson for biggest disappointment.

With each fight I see, the more I despise them. They are a complete waste of time. Carlyle has a guy like McLaren in so he can fight, yet he spends more minutes in the box than he has ice time. And the idea that these guys are intimidating has to be the biggest myth going. No one gives a crap about these guys. You know who is intimidating? Lucic. And he can play.

Sorry, rant over.

As for the game. Great 2nd period showed the Leafs can play with the big boys. But the other two they had the play taken to them and were scrambling around.

I really hope Rielly gets back in and one of Ranger or Fraser sits.

Pvr'd the third period. I hate blaming anything on the referees, but there were at least four headshots not called in that period. The one where Chara basically punched Lupul in the face was the worst because it was so obvious.

This team really misses Bozak and Bolland.

Made worse because what Chara did was almost literally the exact thing JVR got 4:00 for.

Leafs are second in the Eastern Conference in save percentage  (.937), followed by Boston (.935), Montreal (.930), Ottawa (.924).

Rask on Reimer:
He was rock solid back there I thought,? Rask told sportsnet.ca when asked about Reimer?s performance. ?He saw the puck really good and didn?t give too many rebounds. I don?t think he can blame himself for this loss. I thought he played a solid game.?

Kadri on his teammate:
?He?s a very aggressive goaltender,? said centre Nazem Kadri. ?He likes to come out and play the puck well beyond the blue paint. He made some excellent saves out there that really could have been the difference.?

Julien on the Leafs:
They?re a team that?s been getting better every year,? said Boston coach Claude Julien. ?I said that before and I?m still saying the same thing. They?re a growing team and growing in the right direction. They?re legit, there?s no doubt about it.?

Watched it on delay, but good to see the "it's not a penalty if Chara does it" rule is still in effect.

I agree, but not only that, I counted no less than 3 clear head shots that weren't called against the Bruins last night. Brutal!

I missed this post before I posted. Totally agree with all points.

Good game from a beat up Leaf teem. I wish the refs would have called a fair game. I think if we had our centers back, it would have been enough to put us right on the same level as them, even after we played the night before, they brought there own refs.
I'm also going to point out we never got out shot, and it did not make a difference.

we lost in there house, but pay backs are a coming when we host them.
