Leafs claim Frank Corrado, waive Panik

Patrick said:
The only thing that I was wondering was, apparently Tampa were more than a little sour about losing him originally so if they can, perhaps they put in a claim.

Yeah that's a possibility. I don't see him cracking their top-12 but maybe they keep him around as a healthy scratch.

There has to be a trade, no?

I can't see any of those guys being happy as 4th liners on the Marlies.

That really depends on how the coaching staff deals with playing time, etc. A few of these guys are in their first full professional season, and others should be willing to do whatever they can to find a place in the NHL in the future - and I imagine they understand that, as well.

Panik cleared.

Marlies are so stacked on the wing: Brown, Panik, Frattin, Kapanen, Hyman, Bailey, Soshnikov, Leipsic, Leivo.

Maybe a definition of stacked is in order here for clarification of your definition of stacked?

Orders of serendipity...

Corrado's back up with the Leafs. Hopefully he gets a chance to replace Polak on the 3rd pairing. I'd like to keep giving Marincin a shot as well but Harrington should probably replace him once he's healthy.

Can we make trades now or is there a window that opens for trades to happen. I guess a team is going to need a raft of injuries to make a trade this early in the season?

Trades must be made before the trade deadline in order the acquired player to be eligible for the current season. Teams are free to make trades anytime before the deadline. There is a roster freeze around Christmas too. Technically, trades can be made after the deadline, but any players moved would be ineligible to play for their new team until the following season.

Unless, of course, the trades are between two teams whose names start with vowels, in which case they can only make trades during certain periods of Jupiter's ascension.

Unless, of course, it's a leap year . . . but, we don't have to worry about that for a couple months.

You forget that before trades can happen that we must find the Jade Monkey before the next full moon.

And of course in Canada the whole thing is flip-flopped.

On why Frankie Corrado remains a healthy scratch all this time, Lou says:
?Right now the most important thing is what can we do here to get this team to play to the best of its abilities. In my opinion, you play exactly who you need to play to have the most success. People have to be ready when they?re given that opportunity to take advantage of it.?

Which is essentially... nothing.

Trying to read between the lines, although Corrado is a more valuable asset than a guy like Polak, the coach thinks having Polak's sandpaper on the bottom pair and PK is going to give them more of a chance to win each night. It doesn't hurt that it probably keeps his trade value at a point where you can get a pick for him towards the deadline.

Also, quite a few rumors on twitter that the Leafs have been quite close to moving Polak already. A few of the teams that have underperformed(Anaheim and Columbus) have apparently kicked the tires on him. How much substance there was to the inquiries, who knows?

My guess is how close the Leafs have been to moving Polak is probably over-stated. I have no doubt that there's been discussion, but I think we're in the usual "not until after Thanksgiving" holding pattern for trades. Wouldn't surprise me if the teams on the other side of potential deals are a little gun-shy at the moment.
