Leafs @ Penguins - Nov 16th - 7:00 pm - CBC

Yeah, I think it was just a love letter slash apology from Ron to Don. It was obviously not rehearsed, or even organized. It was just Ron unloading a little, and very carefully so as not to create any resulting talking points.

Feels like that's a pretty badly missed opportunity. Like as if they thought the biggest issue of the week was "I sure hope Ron and Don's relationship is still ok".

Am I the only one who thinks Babcock is playing certain players in the wrong situation just to send a message to Dubas? Why can't Holl or Dermott play with Rielly?

If this is a power struggle between Dubas and Babcock then Dubas needs to fire him and get his guy in there.  Unless, of course, Dubas doesn't have 100% control and Shanahan wants Babcock kept in that role.

I think it's even more complicated then that. Firing Babcock would, I think, make Shanahan look pretty bad. Imagine him having to go to the board and say that the money they still owed Babcock was a sunk cost because he couldn't mediate a dispute between Babcock and Dubas.

Majority of the money has been paid.

Well wasn't there some speculation about Dubas trying to fire Babcock after the last season? Maybe there is bad blood still.

I can see him using players the wrong way just to say "this is what you gave me to work with, since I don't have the defensive d-men I wanted, I'll just pretend that Ceci and Barrie is".

I really, truly don't think anyone would make it as far in the hockey world as Babcock has without wanting to win as much as possible. I think, right now,
Babcock is wrong about what would get him those results but I think what you're accusing him of is kind of unfair as it's really calling his integrity into question. Players' careers and futures are at stake. I don't think Babcock would be willing to damage those for the sake of a feud.

Fire the coach.  I don?t think it?s entirely on Babcock but a wake up call is needed and trades aren?t going to happen for a while this season if at all.

There is no team playing worse hockey than the leafs right now.  They are bottomiing out.

To best benefit the franchise, they need to lose another 4-5 in a row, that will remove babcock and we can see what the dubas assembled actually looks like.

His integrity should be called into question. The only player he benches is Nylander.  He won?t adjust any of the goaltending.  He puts these players in horrible positions to succeed.  It does seem purposeful.

I'd give him to end of this road trip.  If they go 0-fer or maybe get 1, then yeah, get rid of him.

I really don't see how this could be considered a goal. Say that Muzzin should be called for tripping, maybe, but if the goalie gets wiped out by an opposing player for any reason other than a defensive player pushing a player directly into his path feels like it shouldn't count.

That's a reasonable result by the letter of the goaltender interference law (haha); the time taken to go for the challenge is probably a point of contention.
