There was no war of words, MacArthur whined like a baby and Carlyle didn't really respond.

No he didn't. Provide the quotes.

What he did was score big playoff goals and chose not to re-sign because he didn't like Carlyle.

While not everyone will use the word "whining" to describe these comments, these are what I was refering to.

?Some guys are good with the criticism and some guys don?t want to hear it every single shift you come off the ice,? MacArthur said. ?You?re old enough to know (you) made a mistake. You don?t need to hear it every five seconds.
?It weighs differently on different people and, for me, it was some long days.?

?It?s one of those things where he runs the show there and everyone knows that and that?s the way it is,? said MacArthur. ?It?s worked for him in the past, he?s got a (Stanley) Cup from that, but at the same time there?s other ways to do things, too.?

and Carlye only had this to say, handled it with class in my opinion.

?How could they say something unkind about me?? said Carlyle. ?When players are gone, we don?t throw any dirt. We thank them for their effort and we hold them with highest esteem. If he has something negative to say, that?s up to him. I choose to ignore (it). I?ve got a new set of players. I wish him all the luck in the world.?

Did Mac choose not to re-sign? Or did management choose not to offer him a contract?

I don't think he was offered a contract, but he said that he decided he wasn't going to re-sign after he was scratched in the playoffs.

For a team that is slumping in the PK department, they sure aren't curbing their penalty totals.

You take a lot penalties when you're chasing the play in the defensive zone so much. Fix that and the penalty totals will drop.

He's tenth in ES TOI and 6th in minors taken. He's not exactly helping.

Well, you have to balance that against the time he actually spends on the PK.

But, duly noted, he's taking more minor penalties than Phil Kessel.

Excellent point. So how does RC fix this (in my ad nauseum posts I don't think he has the ability nor the player's ears)?

He's been less effective than he was last season, and tonight's penalty was his 9 compared to the 3 he took all of last season. He's not the only reason the PK is struggling, but he is part of it - in part because he hasn't been quite as good as last season and in part because he's taking himself out of the equation more frequently.

See, this is what I think is so confusing about the "code" that a guy like Cherry advocates. He thinks Orpik hit Eriksson with a clean hit but that means that Orpik is obligated to fight an idiot like Thornton because of it? The code is that you're not allowed to check good players?

Because it seems to me that an attitude like that, way more than trying to ban fighting, will take the physicality out of the game.

Like you say though, the team spending more time in their own zone is going to increase the number of penalties someone takes. I mean, tonight, if Franson doesn't momentarily forget how to play hockey the situation never arises.

But as to the general point re: his play, I agree. He hasn't been as good as last year but, then again, I think that's largely true throughout the roster.

Pens-Bruins games is apparently getting out of control:

That "kneeing" example by Crosby Don showed didn't even happen. I slowed it down and the bodies didn't even touch - anywhere. The Bruin went down clutching his knee. Perhaps he twisted it in the play but he was not touched by Crosby.

Edit: I just looked at CTB post and now see that the Pen (#48?) kneed the Bruin in the head. That was bad.

*sniffle* Mike honoured on Coach's Corner tonight. Not a huge fan of Don Cherry, but I know Mike was a huge Leaf fan so his family might appreciate the 'shout out' to Constable Pegg tonight.

thanks Don!

11th PP goal given up in the last 7 games.

That's what saved you last year RC.

They've now allowed 6 more PP goals than they did all of last season, in ~50 fewer attempts.

EDIT: Coming into tonight, they'd also already allowed 13 more shots to teams on the PP than they did last season. That number is obviously higher now. The PK hasn't been anywhere near as effective as last season by just about any measure.

Have we always played this 2-1-1 diamond on the pk or is this new? I noticed it the other game but don't remember seeing it before.
