Leafs trade Marchment to FLA for Denis Malgin

Can't say I know anything about Malgin but Marchment didn't look anything like an NHL player. So this trade falls into the "meh" category for me, until I get a chance to see what Malgin brings. Maybe a couple of years from now Marchment will find his way and this trade will look stupid.

Someone mentioned Timashov. I don't know what to make of him. He's reasonably quick and skilled but doesn't seem to accomplish much. Maybe that's as much due to his linemates as anything else (gauthier?). I do like that he actually hits people, though. Keep hoping Gauthier will take the hint but that will probably not happen at this point.

Not expecting much but if he pushes Gauthier's useless body out of the lineup I'm good with it.

Marchment has been on fire in the AHL. I really liked the guy. The guy has shown strong improvement each year with the Marlies.

Hope Malgin will provide more than Aberg, Petan or Agostino could have provided.

So let me get this straight...Florida...the team we are fighting for a playoff spot against...sends us depth "help"?

Scott Wheeler in the Athletic does a very good write up on Malgin.  It hasn't been noted if Matthews had any input into this deal as he played with Malgin in Switzerland a few years back, so it is not outside the realm of possibility that he did mention Malgin as a skilled player to Dubas at some point.  After stealing Hyman I don't mind if he doesn't end up being Hyman lite.

He won't be Hyman lite. He's a skilled player. His agent, I believe is Petr Svboda said that while people expect him to say nice things about his client, this kid is going to surprise people in T.O.  Said it just wasn't a good fit in Florida. Kid has some really good skill. So we'll see. Apparently Dubas has shown interest in him for a while. Very low risk for both teams here and if it can push Goat out, I'm good. Hope it works out. D man is next!

Going by the Marchment for Malgin conversion rate, we should be able to get Barkov for Agostino.

LMAO

Eh... I think this is more a case of him technically not asking for a trade (his agent did), or him just not wanting to admit he asked for a trade in front of more reporters than he's seen in his life. Requesting a trade is still sorta frowned upon.

I think I was more disappointed in Marchment's play on his call ups than this trade. He had a pretty good path to playing on the bottom 6 based on bring something other couldn't, and he really didn't show anything.

Anyway, I hope that swiss nic petan can join forces with regular nic petan and make one larger petan, destroying villages and such.
