I love the team but hate the players. I couldn't care less about the stick salute, but the fact that as a team they decided to stop saluting there fans after they've been doing it or awhile, well that goes to show the mentality of the leadership. I'm embarrassed to cheer for this quality of players. I went out and bought a leafs jersey last year and I couldn't think of one player on this team who is jersey worthy IMO obviously. I bought a Clark jersey. If we had a leader with half the heart of him, we wouldn't be in this predicament. This team has been in shambles since Sundin left.

If you don't think Kessel is jersey worth well I don't know what else to say.  Clearly you're not sponge worthy.
lol, was that an insult because I don't want a Kessel jersey? If Kessel got traded tomorrow, he'd be forgotten about in 10 years. No, he's not jersey worthy IMO.

Loosely translated, this sentence pretty much boils down to "I don't care about the salute, but, I totally care about the salute and what it represents."

I care what the lack of it signifies at this specific time. I love how when certain individuals disagree with what you say they feel the need to take little jabs. Stay classy my friends!

Honestly, I'm just glad to see them do something as a team for once. If I knew it would be this easy to unite them against a common foe I would have thrown a whole gift shop's worth of Leafs merch at them years ago.

I don't see how veteran players like Robidas and others with half a brain wouldn't have voiced a concern that changing a routine involving a salute to fans after a week of backlash wouldn't be misconstrued.

I have no doubt this was in fact a pushback to what the players feel was a lack of support. The idea that they wanted to "change up the routine" after stinking up the joint by not acknowledging the fans is just asinine.

I'd have more respect for Phaneuf if he had just been honest about it. This group is a disgrace.

The first time I remember the Leafs saluting the fans was just a few games ago after they beat Boston.
I didn't think much of it,and now that it's in the news,I would rather they not bother with it any more.
I'll take a win as a real salute anytime over the little spin they make at center ice.

For some reason I think the team huddle/fan salute thing only makes sense after a home playoff win. In a regular season game each player should do whatever he wants to acknowledge or not acknowledge the fans as he skates off.

when did this ritual of saluting the fans start (and don't say ancient Rome) with the Leafs?
I don't remember seeing them do this up until recently.
Is it really necessary?

I remember in past eras, there was no salute.  This thing of saluting the fans after every game has become almost de rigeur now -- it stands out on whether it is done or not.  And when it isn't, suddenly something must be wrong...
