Maple Leafs are better, but are they a playoff team?

To answer this topic heading let me just say absolutely, positively, without a doubt..... maybe. You're welcome.

Not to brag or anything, but, I went out and made this BOLD decleration almost 6 months ago and I'm stickin' to it.

It looked a lot better when there were like 5 teams vying for 7 spots. With the devs, pens, and ott disappearing from sight, the struggling leafs are stuck with the miserable caps losers of 6 of 7, the panthers losers of 3 straight and 5/8, and now the jets who arent very good at all outside their goaltending which helped them to get enough pointsto stumble  into this elite group vying for the last 2 playoff spots. I'm astounded at the slumps those 3 teams are mired in, at least the jets really seem to want it.

Welcome to the perfect storm. ;)

Now if the Leafs would only show us that they want to ride the waves.....

It is a perfect time for the leafs to make it, with 5 of the 9 teams ahead in the east last yr (caps, buf, tb, mtl, and the canes) all having dismal seasons. To be beaten out by perceived lottery teams like the panthers, sens, and jets would just be embarrassing and shows that they have all somehow made more progress in the last calendar yr than our leafs. It will be harder next season when some of the struggling clubs tweak their issues

It may be smarter for Burkie to sit on things now, let the team find its own way this season, and make moves in the off-season under less pressure....looking long-term that is.  But OH MY GOD do I want him to do something before the deadline to spark the team.  I really wish he'd have gotten Carter.  I hope he's got his eyes on Parise or something.

I'll stick with team nutman, but I've left 'team connolly' far behind.  And as for 'team komisarek'...

i agree with sitting ...i'm also hoping for some kind of miracle ..but i really don't want them hurting the future just to get their asses kicked by the rangers or the bruins ....i can't wait for the deadline ...so that one way or another the speculation is done...

Caps, Isles and Sabres all win tonight.

Leafs are now in 10th, same points as the Caps, one point behind Florida for 8th, 7 behind Ottawa in 7th.

And don't look now - they are 4 pts up on Buffalo, five up on Tampa and NYI, and 7 up on Carolina and the Habs.

They really need to string some wins together soon - last in the conference really isn't that far away.

Welp.. we're in 10th folks.. 1-7 in the middle of a "playoff push".. enjoy the slide ladies and gentlemen! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yeah it ain't good.  Burke needs to be a seller now. The prices are high, let's cash in on more prospects / picks.

My view is that the Leafs hold firm and don't deal from a position of weakness. Its bad in business and bad in hockey, the Leafs have a crop of very good young players and if they don't happen to make it to the dance this year so be it, we have waited long enough but to give up players with a lot of upside for one "star" is a mistake at this point. It would amount to the same old, same old.

The Leafs aren't any better than they were last year. They just had their winning spurt at the beginning of the season instead of at the end.

Maybe that'll finally end up in a good draft pick though.

Teams in the playoff hunt all go on losing streaks.. Leafs lose. All the teams in the hunt win a couple games.. Leafs still lose. Damn I sure love being a freakin Leaf fan!!

The way the standings look, it really seems like 8th is the best they can get this year. That will be one tough 1st round, that's for sure.

After tonight's loss, their playoff chances slipped to 16%

They are 2 points ahead of where they were after 63 games last season. The reason their chances are better this year is more due to the 8th place team having fewer points than last year at this point in time.
