Marlies Talk

Burke has been a sick GM for the Marlies.

Truth be told, Nonis is the GM of the Marlies and he (along with help from Burke) really has put together a fine team.

No matter how fans are quick disconnect the two teams, a winning Marlies team bodes well for the Leafs in the coming years.

..... a team which is full of key pieces they have worked to acquire for the big club's future. (just saying for those who have forgotten)

Is Kadri hurt?  I noticed he wasn't listed in the box score for the Marlies game tonight.

Speaking of Kadri, will he get a better shot now under Carlyle?  Anyone know how he is with young players?
I know they mentioned he helped bring along a young Getzlaf, Ryan and Perry.  Will be good if guys like Kadri, Colborne and Frattin can get the same development.

(note I'm not comparing these 3 to the above mentioned 3 Ducks)

I don't blame you, some of the posters here pray on the fact our prospects wont turn into anything, and would have been allover that.
they think every team grows great players but us. I believe with the player in our system thats about to change.

Does anyone think we have anything in Greg Scott? I've seen him a bit and I feel like he wouldn't make a terrible third/fourth liner. Kind of like a Joey Crabb type role. Nobody really talks about him, so I was kinda curious what people think.

I thought the Scott-Foster-Hamilton line of last season was possibly the best AHL checking line I'd ever seen play for the Leafs AHL team in the games I saw.

My hope for Hamilton was a little higher than Scott because of his size. He skates very well for a big man. Not only is he decent defensively, he's got some finish - 2nd in team scoring this season, 1st in goal scoring. Last season, he missed nearly half the season with injury but he still scored 16 goals and his ppg was 3rd. Maybe he's kind of cursed as the Marlies Captain - who with that designation do not tend to see a lot of call ups.

Scott is not too far behind Hamilton offensively which is in part why they made a great checking line - they could play two ways and both were gritty.

Scott-D'Amigo and Zigomanis-Hamilton were the top two pairings for the AHL's best PK - this season and less D'Amigo, last season. With all the trouble the Leafs have had on the PK over the last couple of years, it's a little surprising to me these guys didn't get more of a look.

I do not think your interest in Greg Scott is without legitimate foundation. I like him as well. But I guess in the eyes of those who make the roster decisions, he's too deep on their depth charts.

Kadri's tailed off in his production with the Marlies - he's got 29 pts in 38 games there.  As has Colborne.

Joe Colborne and Nazem Kadri haven?t been the same point producers since getting a taste with the Leafs earlier in the season. Colborne had 19 points in 11 games before his call-up but only six goals and 17 points in 37 games since. Kadri was a point-per-game player last time he was summoned but has only three goals and six points in 15 games since being returned February 3rd

Was expecting more points-wise, but I can't comment on how they have looked otherwise.

Eakins really has them playing as a team, sound defensively and a word that seems foreign to this organization. They have a starting goalie in Scrivens with the second best numbers in the entire leaque and Owuya in the ECHL who put up even better numbers in his time with the Marlies.  The Marlies as a team have allowed the second fewest goals in the AHL and their offense is 10th.

The drop off for Kadri and Colbourne is likely something that any top two defensive team would find in some of their offensive stars as a team dedicated to defense will tend to spread the offense around.  They sit 5th in the league and are everything we could have hoped the Leafs could have been.

Ben Scrivens with a shutout tonight.

He hasn't allowed more than three goals in the past 18 games. His SV% is .926 and his GAA is 2.05.

He'll be getting a solid look next year.

Top 10 goalies in the AHL, look who is at the top.  Owuya while in the AHL also putting up a 2.07 and 0.926 line but 3 games shy of the 20 necessary to crack this list.  We still have goalie prospects people.

1 Ben Scrivens Toronto Marlies 2.05 0.926
2 Yann Danis         Oklahoma City 2.07 0.923
3 Cedrick Desjardins Lake Erie    2.11 0.933
4 Tyson Sexsmith Worcester Sharks 2.18 0.922
5 Dov Grumet-Morris San Antonio 2.23 0.924
6 Ben Bishop                 Binghamton 2.27 0.930
7 Eddie Lack           Chicago Wolves 2.28 0.927
8 David LeNeveu     Oklahoma City 2.28 0.916
9 * Anders Nilsson Bridgeport Sound 2.32 0.925
10 Dustin Tokarski   Norfolk Admirals 2.34 0.907

As good as Scrivens' numbers are, I think you also have to acknowledge the fact that, at a robust 25 years of age, he isn't exactly a 'prospect' still.

Goalie development just doesn't follow the same rules as the other positions. I think it is plausible that Scrivens continues to evolve over the next few years.

Lots of goaltenders don't come into their own until about that age. Besides, we have a glut of young talent. If he can't make it work with us here (since we do have a backlog of goaltenders) then we can't parlay him for other useful assets.

Yea goalies certainly do take longer to develop but I think usually that entails some sort of NHL experience. I'm not writing the guy off either, just saying that he is 25 (26 this year actually) with barely more than a half dozen NHL games under his belt.

Ben Bishop is 25 with 13 career NHL games before he got traded.

Sens got a steal with Ben Bishop.
