Marlies Talk

We still have goalie prospects people.

As good as Scrivens' numbers are, I think you also have to acknowledge the fact that, at a robust 25 years of age, he isn't exactly a 'prospect' still.

Goalie development just doesn't follow the same rules as the other positions. I think it is plausible that Scrivens continues to evolve over the next few years.

Agreed with that. Looking back at some old stats, Tim Thomas at 25 split the season between Hamilton and Sweden. He was 6-8 with a 3.23 GAA for the Hamilton Bulldogs and 8-3-3 with a 2.23 GAA in Sweden. Think he's doing pretty good for a guy who developed late. Scrivens could be one of those late bloomers. At worst, he'll continue to be a very good option for the Marlies.

Yes I think no doubt Gus is not resigned as a UFA.  Scrivens deserves a backup role in the NHL next year and I can't see the Leafs going with two unproven guys in Reimer and Scrivens next year.  So I see either Reimer or Scrivens traded a vet signed and Owuya the number one with the Marlies next season.  I would look at somebody like Montoya though on the cheap and short term.  I still think our goaltending isn't as grim as we think.  We are a young team that hopefully can become defensively responsible under RC.  If its me and I am sure not many will agree with me, I go with Reimer and Scrivens as we are still not ready to contend.

Scrivens has done nothing but excel since his signing.  Even his taste of the NHL earlier during a Leaf rough patch he looked inconsistent but very good at times which one may  expect from the kid in his first taste of the hotstove called Toronto.

Scrivens has been fantastic and to let this kid go may be a Rask type error.

I think Gus and Reimer have looked either identically good or bad this year.

I hope to god they can win the Calder and have a couple of guys step in and make a somewhat meaningful contribution to the big club next year, ala the Phantoms team that won with a young Carter and Richards I think.

Broll might be a better version of Mike Brown potentially, would be nice if he can have an impact.

I remember when we drafted him... He was viewed as a guy that isn't much fun to play against. Broll. Ross. Biggs. Ashton. All guys with some skill who are kind of like that. Heck, even Kadri when the mood strikes him.

The AHL's Toronto Marlies have added wingers David Broll and Sondre Olden for the playoff drive. Their OHL seasons ended over the weekend.

It'll be interesting to see if either will get any action in, particularly once the playoffs start and Rosehill, Frattin and Ashton are returned. The Marlies are quite deep at forward.

So obviously they aren't on the Clear Day List, I assume there is an exemption for young guys coming from Jnr?

Yes, teams can add signed prospects as long as their seasons have ended in the CHL/college.

Good to have the extra bodies though particularly with weekends like last weekend with games Fri, Sat, Sun.  Will be nice to rest some of the guys and to avoid injuries while the Marlies get ready for post season.

Another shutout for Scrivens yesterday in a 1-0 shootout win.  The Marlies don't need to score with Scrivens in goal.

Scrivens line now is 2.02 GAA and .927 save %.  Solid, solid season.

You are right. Last two games were shootout wins and Scrivens record is 8 saves on 8 shots.

He actually looked good in spurts while he was up with the Leafs, too. Obviously, there's no way in hell you can go with Scrivens as a back-up next year, unless of course both Reimer and Gus are gone and we get a proven starter. But I'd really like to see him get an extended look - he obviously deserves it.

I can't see how Scrivens can be overlooked. He will be 26 and deserves the back up role so he should either duke it out with Reimer for the back up job or be dealt to somebody who will give him an opportunity at the NHL level. Maybe like you say Reimer is the one traded.

With Scrivens and Rynnas called up due to injuries to Reimer & Gustavsson, Mark Owuya has been recalled from the ECHL and the Leafs signed Chris Noonan

to an ATO, adding him to the Marlies roster.
