Marlies Talk

Marlies line-up in the last game of the regular season looks more like the Leafs one - Fratin, Colborne, Kadri, Gardiner, Ashton, Dupuis, Rosehill - or were the Leafs rather resembling the Marlies. ;D

" Toronto Marlies announced today that they will open the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs at Ricoh Coliseum on Thursday, April 19 at 7:00 pm. The Marlies will faceoff against the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, in a best-of-five series. Toronto won seven of 10 games against the Americans during the regular season.

Toronto will host game two of the first round series on Saturday, April 21st at 3:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. Games three and four (if necessary) will be played at Rochester?s Blue Cross Arena on Monday, April 23rd at 7:05 pm, and Wednesday, April 25th at 7:05 pm, respectively. Game five (if necessary) will be back in Toronto at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday, April 28th at 3:00 pm. "

I suggest people seriously consider going and support this playoff run. lots of prospects to watch

G: Scrivens D: Gardiner, Blacker, Holzer, Mikus F: Kadri,Frattin, D'amigo, Colbourne, Mueller, Abbott, Ashton.

Ill be there.

The Marlies averaged just under 5500 per home game this year. The AHL average was just over 5600. Have to admit those numbers are better than I ever expected after MLSE moved the team out of St. John's. The IceCaps averaged 6300 (full capacity) in the city's return this year.

The Marlies have also received the Hap Holmes award, which goes to the team that has the fewest goals against. Ben Scrivens will be the only goalie listed on the award as the threshold is 25 games played. Recent  winners of the award include JS Gigure, Olaf Kolzig, Martin Biron, and Cory Schneider.

Sondre Olden has been released from his ATO contract with the Toronto Marlies #Marlies

Not sure if that means anything whatsoever.

Pretty sure the Marlies had well over 30 players on their roster, so it might have just been a case of Olden not really getting any practice time and so they cut him loose.

Maybe a release so he could be a part of the Norwegian camp leading into the Worlds? If he's not seeing any ice time for the Marlies it would make sense.

Do we still retain his rights?

Is he basically being given an extended summer vacation?

I believe it is just a formality. He was not able to be part of the playoff team.

I think he has to be signed by the 1st of June or he re-enters the draft.

Olden could have played for the Marlies in the playoffs under his ATO. But as previously mentioned, they have an excess of bodies with the club now.

I'd sign him and let him play with the Marlies or Reading next year.  Has good size and showed a willingness to come over and ply his trade here instead of sticking around in Scandinavia.

According to the team's Twitter account @TorontoMarlies, the games will be broadcast locally, on Rogers TV.

He has another year in the OHL, he'd probably be better off spending next season there.

edit: For some reason I thought he was a year younger than he actually is. Still, he could return to the OHL for as an OA. Apparently Erie's GM had some offers for him at the deadline but refused to trade him, so that could indicate they're expecting him back.

My comment was based on him going back into the draft Carlton, if we can sign and send back to the juniors I'd do that, thanks for the info.

It might be time to cut some of the older Marlies loose to make room on the 50 contract limit list for these guys.

Rogers will carry the live games, Leafs TV will rebroadcast on the same night.

So anyone with Leafs TV only is left solely with a Seinfeld option "(Jerry, watching Mets tape, picks up phone) If you know what happened in the Mets game, don't say anything, I taped it, hello ?"  ;D
