Marlies Talk

And btw, Marlies have new leading scorer - Marcel Murller - who has considerably improved over his rookie season (21 pts. in 20 games so far). Kadri also got a point giving him 20 pts. in just 16 games.

Apparently Mueller has decided that December's AHL Player of the Month award should go to him ?

Mueller slides into the top 10 in AHL scoring

Marlies PPG Players this season
Joey Crabb 1.67
Joe Colborne 1.46
Nazem Kadri 1.25
Marcel Mueller 1.05
Mike Zigomanis 1.00
Matt Frattin 1.00

Owuya is 2nd in save% (.936) and GAA (1.78) in the AHL

I'd really like to see Mueller get a shot at some point this year, I think he could be one of those really effective 3rd line players.

Marlies beat Houston 4-0 this afternoon, Owuya with SO makes it tough to send him down to ECHL. His numbers are very impressive 1.78 GAA (Rynnas 3.59), SVS% .936 (Rynnas .879) and 5-2-1 record (Rynnas 4-6-0). With Scrivens back I guess one of them would have to go.

Great for Owuya but what has happened to Rynnas since his hot start last year. He was looking like a guy who could help out the Leaf team and now he may go to the ECHL.

It's the way it goes sometimes, I guess.

He's up to 232lbs according to the AHL stats

Nice blog on him:

If he can keep up with his skating, his size might come in handy against teams like the Bruins.

The Marlies have reassigned goaltender Mark Owuya to the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Interesting, guess they want to give Scrivens/Rynnas all the opportunity they can right now with the Marlies.

No my feeling is that they don't want a guy like Owuya who has excelled with the Marlies sitting on the bench while Scrivens get the lion's share of starts.  They would have rather have him playing a ton with Reading which has worked out well for both Reimer and Scrivens in recent history.  Rynnas has been disappointing.

Marlies won 4-1 today.  Kadri had a goal, Colborne had an assist (2 in 2 games since being back).

Also, Caputi played his 2nd game back from injury and had a goal.

Scrivens the W.

Good for them to get recognized, but one would think s Kadri likes the call up and success on the big team a little more. Glad they got picked.

NHL All Star break is at the same time. They might send him down so he can take part.

Don't look now but Jussi Rynnas has gotten red hot.  A shutout in his last game and just 2 goals allowed in his last 3 games.  Thats a minuscule  0.67 GAA and a .978 save %.

Maybe he is finally putting it all together, lets hope.

That being said, he's been Gustavsson for the Marlies, one game in the middle of December, and now two games to start January.  He's hot though, starting again tonight (3rd game in a row) and he hasn't given up a goal midway through the second.

Back to back shutouts.  Stopped 112 of 114 shots over the past 4 games.
