Marlies Training Camp Thread

I don't think the Marlies are the only team that will be "soft" this year though with the lockout.  A lot of teams will have their high-AHL, NHL-ready prospects playing in the AHL who might not be otherwise.  I think it's going to be more of a weaker NHL kind of league until the lockout is over.

The roster has been set:

Goaltenders:

Mark Owuya
Jussi Rynnas
Ben Scrivens

Defencemen:

Jesse Blacker
Mark Fraser
Jake Gardiner
Simon Gysbers
Korbinian Holzer
Mike Kostka
Paul Ranger
Dylan Yeo

Forwards:

Spencer Abbott
Will Acton
Carter Ashton
Keith Aucoin
Joe Colborne
Jerry D?Amigo
Nicolas Deschamps
Jamie Devane
Ryan Hamilton
Nazem Kadri
Leo Komarov
Greg McKegg
Brad Ross
Kenny Ryan
Greg Scott
Mike Zigomanis

That's a good looking roster.  Great mix of veteran AHL talent and leadership with a really healthy mix of young, talented and touch players.  I'm especially happy to see guys like McKegg, Ross and Devane make the team, as well as Paul Ranger who I think will actually challenge for a spot on the Leafs if / when that time comes.

Well with Devane, Komarov, Ross and Ryan, their will be plenty of sandpaper/agitation in the line-up. I just hope we're not in the penalty box for half the game.

I like the veteran AHL additions to the line-up. It may take some ice time from the young guys but should create a real stable atmosphere. Hopefully a winning one too.

I think this may be the year Rynnas loses his job to Owuya. Just a hunch.

So who were the last or notable cuts and where did they go?

Back to Major Junior or the ECHL?

The only players that were under contract that were "cut" were Brenner, Carrick and Crescenzi. Carrick and Cresenzi were both coming straight out of junior and could have been sent back for their overage seasons but the Leafs decided to send them to the ECHL instead. All 3 will play for the Leafs new ECHL affiliate, the Fort Wayne Komets.

You could be right. Owuya seems to be a talent. But I'm also pulling for Rynnas to rebound with a strong year (he showed plenty of promise a couple of years back). I think he struggled under the tutelage of the human devil known as "Allaire".  ;D

No matter how well the Marlies play this season, you have to  give a BIG avantage to this team....

....the Oklahoma City Barons, whose lineup will include Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the first pick in the 2011 draft, highly touted free agent Justin Schultz and Jordan Eberle. And don't forget Taylor Hall, who is pegged to join the Barons once he's fully recovered from a shoulder injury.....

Puh..lease..

Is this an AHL team or the next Team Canada?  ;D
