It?s such a cryin? shame that they weren?t better together after all.

Oh man. I'm so glad the narrative that Lou is some super-GM is going to be dead soon.

Is Riley Nash to Columbus major or nah?

Nope, so minor I didn?t even notice Nik already posted about it.

Outside of Toronto and St. Louis, has any other team actually improved this free agent season? I was away for the weekend so it was hard to track beyond Tavares.

I think Vegas did ok swapping Neal for Stastny and even though I don't like the trade they made, I think Calgary right now looks like a net positive.

edit: Also, Philly.

Thanks, Nik. So that?s 5 out of 31 and none in our division. Buffalo kneecapped themselves, Montreal literally can?t even get to the table, and Ottawa is about to divest itself further of playables. Neeeaaaat.

Well, I mean, things get a little broader if you expand it beyond just last weekend. Even though I think Buffalo didn't do great in their trade I think their entire off-season might be good if Sandin has a big impact right away and Hutton is ok. Detroit didn't lose anyone of significance and added Vanek who had a pretty good year last year and Bernier(again a small but maybe significant upgrade).

Then you have Florida who'll be returning basically the same team only with Hoffman who, you know, if he and his gal don't cyberbully Aaron Ekblad should be a bit of an on-ice improvement.

Although our Rasmus might end up being better, theirs is called Dahlin. ;)

Not to worry, that's only the first of roughly a billion times I'm going to make that mistake.

Hertl gets 4 years with a $5.625mil AAV. He's scored at a 45-point pace for the past 3 seasons. It's not a terrible contract but these are going to be exactly the types of deals the Leafs need to be very careful with going forward.

Yak signs with the KHL.  As someone who once mildly suggested the Leafs might want to give him a whirl as a depth guy, I'd just like to say: I'm a nin-com

I'd much rather give Duclaire a whirl.  Throw him on the 4th line in place of Leivo?

Please no, no effort.

Low risk, high potential reward.  I believe he has good underlying numbers.  Worst case, he's relegated to 13th forward.

And, it would be for a low term, low cap hit contract, obviously.  Something that's buryable if needed.
