I was just crapping on his goal-scoring ability and then he pots 2 in the 3rd.

I don't think he'll ever get more than low 30's in goals in a season, but I'm not sure how to even compare his vision and playmaking ability to another player, and I watch a pile of out of market games. Maybe P. Kane? That's all I can come up with. And Marner does PK effectively as well.

I guess one could say he's overpaid relative to goals being worth more to the makeup of a player, but it's rare to see a player so consistently "visible" in virtually every game. I think someone here once said it's better to overpay your top talent by a million rather than the middle or low end, and that makes sense to me.

I agree - Marner is always "visible" whereas it seems Matthews seems to disappear until he scores.  8) If you're not watching the game you hear Marner's name quite a bit more IMO. And I have always thought that they were pretty equal in terms of driving the team with Marner being a little stronger than Matthews. I'm more happy about the six years than the contract getting done.

I actually think Matthews has comparable vision but unfortunately he's not playing with a goal scorer like himself or JT. Marner def has the edge in D zone play but Matthews' D zone effort  is def improving under Keefe.
As for visibility. I don't think it's a rarity to see a player so "visible" virtually every game. There are plenty around the league. As for Marner, let's not forget that he was pretty brutal until he came back from injury so while he may have been more visible, it wasn't necessarily in a good way. Anyway, good for us he's out of that early season funk because we're going to need our superstars to be just that if we're going to have success.

If you purely look at an hourly wage type thing. Mitch is used more than any other forward. And I don't think the defesemen are working on tips. LOL

He definitely is but it isn't by much. I know the numbers may change now that Keefe is running the show but Marner's extra time comes from the PK(2:31). Infact Marner is 2nd on the team in SH time, behind only CC. He's only averaging 35 seconds more (20:27 - 19:51) then Matthews on the season.. Matthews plays about 2 mins more on average at even strength and their PP time is pretty much equal.
