I can understand people wanting Thornton to get 20+ games, but nobody really thinks the NHL will actually give him that, right?

No, but I do expect a fairly significant suspension. 10-12 games seems like where it'll probably come in.

Yeah, that's about the highest I see coming.

What about he Flyers Rinaldo, who one-sided the Stars Roussel?  What was Rinaldo's rational?  Oh, because Roussel taunt the crowd after scoring a goal?

Guys like Rinaldo haven't got a brain.  They shouldn't be play in the game with marginal skills.  Bashing other people (blind-sidedly) doesn't quantify as a skill.  And the NHL still tolerates this nonsense.  Thought we had wiped out the tactics of the Bullies Flyers era.

Boston always seems to get breaks suspension wise. jacobs has a great deal of pull. In many ways Thorontons actions before and during the incident were equal too if not worse than Bertuzzi's. Mind you if Refs had done their jobs and defused the situation by giving Thoronton a misconduct earlier and if Coaches had tried to defuse the situation, but that is not Juliens style. He wants Bruins to play on the edge. Well Thoronton went over the edge. He should get 21 to 25 games but given team 10 to 15 games. Again here is a enforcer a middle weight trying to take on a middle weight. First with Scott and Kessel now Thoronton and Orpik. Kessel if Scott could have sustained a concussion, Orpik was not so lucky, Kessel saw Scott coming. Not that I condown the stick swinging but if league is serious about player safety they need to address this problem.

For the simple fact he's not having a face 2 face meeting, he's not getting any more than 5. I think it's ridiculous and I think both Thornton's and Neal's incidents should receive equal punishments.

That's where we definitely disagree. Thornton's was much worse.

I have a real problem with what Neal did; it was dirty and dangerous. But it was a spur-of-the-moment dirty play. Thornton's was a deliberate attempt to injure by assaulting a player with a trip from behind and punches to the face.

Spur of the moment or not, Marchand is as vulnerable as Orpik and Neal is at speed making a collision involving a kneed pad made of a hard material and a player's head.

You want to talk about a play where a guy is lucky the player didn't end up seriously injured then this is the perfect example.

?People could probably criticize that I?m a little too honorable, I suppose, in some instances. I've been a firm believer my whole life that what goes around comes around. If you?re one of those guys that suckers someone when they?re down or you go after somebody that doesn?t deserve it or isn?t the same category as you, that will come back and bite you at some point, too.?

I'm just talking about basic principles in law. I assume they apply to basic principles of NHL discipline.

I feel he got away with something here. Ah well.

It's consistent with other deliberate hits to the head, though. Glad he got five and not two or three.

Uh, wow. I figured the NHL would go lightly on Neal because they couldn't prove intent, but they flat out say that Neal knew what he was doing and did it on purpose. Brutal. A deliberate knee to the head of a defenceless player gets you 5 games.

It's also his 4th offense, 2 previous suspensions and 1 fine.

I feel that if you knee Marchand in the head you should get a 5 game credit towards a future suspension. Or some sort of award at the very least.

The fact that they acknowledge it was on purpose but then only give 5 games is a JOKE.

Do they not realize they're being sued for not protecting players noggins?
