Nonis using depth to go shopping....

Burke has the depth to let Grabs walk.

In November, I might have agreed with you, but, now, not a chance. He's been a point a game player since then. I'm not sure there's a team in the league that has the depth to allow a player that's producing at that level to walk.

...and even then, he was hurt early and had some cold linemates ( doesn't change what you're saying to me )

The crux will be getting him signed to something decent ( unknown at this point and hopefully... ) before the deadline or Burke has a tough choice to make.

It's really a tough situation and I'm firmly in the re-sign him camp - even at 5 mil per (though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't go north of 5.) Anyway, let's pretend he wants an outrageous number and there is opportunity to deal him for a suitable return prior to Feb 27... What's the absolute minimum return folks could stomach?

I'd trade MacArthur, Kulemin, Connolly and Lombardi far before Grabbo.

The only two forwards I think are keepers are Kessel and Lupul.  I wouldn't lose sleep if Grabbo is traded.

No doubt but then you're the one that had him out of the picture as a flash in the pan pretty early so not that surprising either.

Grabbo is no question the best centre on the team and the way he has played lately the margin between him and Bozak is getting pretty wide.  Would take a lot more than people think to replace him if he were simply unloaded.

Every time he gets to the counter he puts the wallet away and walks out.

He may just end up buying some clown pants for Komisarek to dress him up and entertain kids for the rest of the year or something.

Its looking more and more like the biggest trade Burke will make (if any at all) prior to the 27th, will be for a big 3rd or 4th liner. It's just too risky to break up that 2nd line and trade away the likes of Grabo & Mac right now. (Unless of course Burke can steal away a Geztlaf or Nash). As a Leaf fan its looking like the deadline will be pretty anti climatic this year.

The game in Philly will prove that Leafs need bigger bodies in top 6. I like Bozak but he plays extremely tiny and totally vanishes once physicality makes an appearance (has he even played in Winnipeg the other day?)

Bozak actually had a couple of huge scoring chances last night.  The extra pass killed that line all game long and kept the shot totals way down.

I agree in general there needs to be some more size up front, but if push comes to shove I would rather have speed than size.  I'm not concerned about Philli specifically as I think their defense has huge problems with fast teams and they aren't as physical as you think, especially without Pronger.

I think Bozak doesn't get the respect he deserves. He hasn't played that long in the NHL and looks to be making some pretty fine improvements imo. His point totals are back up this year (although this could be a product of playing with PK and JL).

PK and JL's point totals are also a product of playing with PK and JL.

It's looking doubtful:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/story/2012-02-07/trade-deadline-prices-soaring/53004588/1

The salary cap has created parity, and parity has created tighter races, which have turned the trade deadline into a seller's market.

Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke decided he wants to avoid deadline day shopping if it all possible because he thinks prices are always too high.

"Do a graphic for any year ? the math doesn't work," Burke said. "Fourteen to 16 teams add players. Prices are inflated, and there is one Stanley Cup parade at the end of the season. The trade deadline is a pit of quicksand."

Although it would be nice to see the Leafs finally make the playoffs, that's not a reason to make a costly trade.  Clean up loose ends at the best.  Can't see a home run happening.
