Toronto, ON ? The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Josh Leivo of the Sudbury Wolves is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 7 after scoring six goals in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Leivo helped lead the Wolves to three straight road wins beginning Thursday night in Peterborough where he scored twice including the game-winner as first star of a 4-1 win over the Petes.  The Wolves continued their East Division road swing on Saturday in Kingston against the Frontenacs where Leivo scored the game-tying goal midway through the third period setting up a 3-2 victory.  In the league?s only contest on Sunday the Wolves wrapped up their road trip with a 6-4 win over the Ottawa 67?s with Leivo recording his second career hat-trick netting the game-winner as first star of the win.

Leivo, a 19-year-old from Innisfil, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Wolves.  A third round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Leivo is currently tied for the OHL-lead with seven goals after scoring 32 last season as part of a 73-point campaign.

Decent night for Rielly.

WHL Facts ‏@WHLFacts

5 - @MJWARRIORS Morgan Rielly (@mriles4) has just become the first player this year to record 5 assists in a single game (5 in last 32 mins)

No goals though - probably too fat.

Rielly ended up with the five assists in a 9-0 romp over Prince Albert.  He looked good on several of them, drawing players to him before passing the puck to open players.  He has one of the nicest saucer passes I have seen.  He was only third star tonight though.  Wapple, the goalie, was second star with the shutout and Sam Fioretti was first star with five points as well, three of them goals with Rielly's help.  It was a good game for Rielly and for a young Moose Jaw team.

:) It'll be interesting to see how his year goes vs. Ryan Murray's. Man, would it ever look bad on Howson to screw up the #2 pick.

As good as Rielly and the Warriors looked last night, they were that flat tonight, getting shut out 5-0.  Rielly had a few good rushes up the ice but usually ended up on his own facing the Americans' team as the rest of the Warriors couldn't keep up to him.  They were badly outplayed tonight.

Rielly and the Warriors played Murray and the Silvertips tonight for the only time this season.  Murray had a nice powerplay goal and looked steady for the Silvertips.  You can definitely see his skill level.  Rielly had a goal and an assist for the Warriors and led many rushes up the ice.  Personally, I thought Rielly was more noticeable as he is flashier. His goal was also a powerplay goal but was a shot to the front of the net from the corner that went in off an Everett player.  Not as pretty, but they all count!  Everett is struggling this year so far.  Losing Murray to the NHL would definitely hurt them a lot.

Nice recap, thanks for this.

Asking this from a position of ignorance, but would it be a stretch to say that Rielly's game is similar to Brian Leetch?  Not sure why, but he's who I think about when I read about Rielly.

Had a busy week so next weeks update will cover what I missed. Obviously, the big news from last week was Rielly's 5-point night. Finn also had a big weekend with 2 goals and an assist in 2 games. A few of our other prospects have hit a bit of a wall. Biggs has 1 point in 4 games. Broll is pointless in 6, Leivo and Rupert are both pointless in 3.

Biggs scored the opening goal 54 seconds into Oshawa's game at Kitchener last night. It was the only real bright spot for the Generals. Kitchener won the game 6-2 and Biggs was a -2 on the night.

-Was pulled Oct. 14th after allowing 5 goals on 16 shots, Guelph came back to win the game but Sparks did not record the W
-Tied for 2nd among OHL goalies in wins

Rielly's tied for 3rd and is youngest amongst that group of defensemen.

Although has anyone taken a look at JC Lipon's numbers? Holy jesus.

On pace for about 160 points, pretty insane for a guy who went through two drafts without getting picked.

Also, Rielly is really tied for second. Myles Bell, who is listed as first, has actually been playing forward apparently this season.

A quick Morgan Rielly update... he had 3 points in 3 games this weekend bringing his season total to 19 points in 16 games. He now leads all defencemen in scoring.

He's also tied for 4th in the entire WHL in assists with 15. The three guys ahead of him (and the one he's tied with) are all members of the Kamloops Blazers. The Blazers are currently 15-0-0-1 this season and have the top-3 point scorers in the WHL so far. Two of them are averaging over 2 points-per-game. Pretty good company to be in for Rielly.
