You might even defer to Dubas in picking drafting a goalie.  He picked a pretty good one in Murray for the SOO.

Pittsburgh really seems to be high on him right now...

He's 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not with a top 10 pick, you won't. There aren't any goalies thought of that highly in this draft. I won't be surprised if none are taken in the 1st round.

Yeah, I think you missed the point.

The discussion was about what to do should the Leafs acquire another top 10 pick. I'm pretty sure you're the one missing the point.

I didn't think SI's point about drafting a goalie was limited to the top 10.

Sorry, I didn't realize considering no goalie prospects are projected to go in the top ten.

With almost no exceptions, I'd go with best-player-available for 1st round picks. It would be nice if that BPA was a goalie, but it doesn't seem there's anyone there this year.

Gustavsson and Hart are potential late 1st rounders.  Definietly not in the top 10.

A goalie like Parsons could also be potentially available with the Capitals pick.

Given the London Knights connection with Hunter, I can see the Leafs taking a flyer on Parsons if he's available at the right draft number.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least.  He did backstop them all the way to Memorial Cup champions.

With a pretty good team in front of him.  He didn't do it all alone.  8)

I don't know if I should post my Armchair thoughts for next year here or not but here I go:

I really hope that the Leafs don't look to sign any UFAs this summer or any summer for that matter until there is a sense that they are on the verge of competing for the Cup.  Until then I hope they only draft and develop.  I was willing to make an exception for Stamkos when it looked like he actually might become a UFA.

I prefer that the Leafs simply run with who they have at this point.  I guess a 4th line UFA like Clune or Brad Malone on less than $925,000 contracts for when needed might be alright.

Maybe if Vesey settles on Toronto in mid August I might reconsider the roster and see if JVR could be traded for young D help.  If Vesey came and shared top 6 LW duties with Michalek then JVR could be traded to a team like Anaheim who are looking to win now and need a top LW LH shot.  I would see if the Leafs included Corrado (+ Holland if necessary) with JVR and hope for Lindholm and maybe they could get some sand paper as well by having Josh Manson included.  That would make Gardiner available in my books for another asset.

Rielly / Zaitsev
Lindholm / Carrick
Marincin / Manson
Hunwick

JVR's no trade clause has kicked in but is it full or limited?

I guess we'd hope he would waive it for a contender anyway.

It's a partial, I assume he has a list of teams he won't or will go to.

Also, since he signed that contract with Philly, I've yet to see any confirmation about it's validity now that he is Leafs property.

Playing around with numbers it seems that right off the hop the Leafs will be into LTIR next year, deeply if Cowen isn't addressed to the Leafs interest and barring other trades, so, yeah.

It would have been up to the Leafs if they wanted to honour the no trade provision of his contract when he was traded.

It's fine by me. JVR is awesome. I wouldn't trade him.

If the leafs sign Vesey, I can see JVR being traded.  Wonder what kind of dman he would being to the leafs.

I wouldn't count on the Leafs getting Vesey. I believe the reporter that knows his friend from Boston that reported he's going there. Done Deal.

Lots of people who have connections (or claim to have connections) to Vesey have linked him to a number of teams. I wouldn't believe any of the reports. The only thing we can say with any real certainty right now is that he's not going to sign with the Preds.

That and Buffalo most likely lost a good draft pick for his rights.
