Official meeting place of the Kadri Cadre

From my incredible vantage point in GM fantasy land I can give the definitive opinion that Kadri should take a 2 year $2.875 per year bridge contract and then cash in for the rest of his career.

I shall 2nd this.

Will Burke offer sheet Kadri once he gets to the Flames?  Would make things exciting around here.

If he did, he has made it clear in the past that he would first talk to the GM of the other team which in this case is his friend Nonis.

If the Leafs could get 2 1st and a 2nd pick for Kadri would you do it?

From Calgary? Hells yeah. And I love Kadri. There's no way that happens though.

100% I would.  That first in 2015 will be Connor McDavid.

I like Kadri's mean streak that Kessel doesn't have and although Kadri is a good skater, Kessel has a higher top gear.  I think offensively, Kessel is above Kadri even though I feel in a couple of years it would not be by much...... so I feel the edge is to Kessel overall.

That being said, I am sure that Burke has learned from his Toronto experience to not over-estimate a teams playoff readiness.  I can't see him doing a 'Kessel' trade ever again.

As for Calgary roster players from last year that is still on the team this Fall, I can honestly say that there is NONE that I would covet for the Leafs based on their salaries vs performance.  That's sad.

I would take two firsts and the 2nd pick in a minute. Kadri although talented has a lot to prove for the "gone to heaven" contract which he will receive in two years if he just signs the bridge contract. Although I want to see him with the Leafs, if he continues to whing and play hardball then he can take the highway.

I think he`s a bit of a brat, honestly. Why chirp the media through Twitter...

Why automatically take the team at face value and the player as a liar?

I didn't call anyone a liar. I stated I think he's a brat for chirping the media. I stand by that. Shut your mouth and let the negotiations play out.

Would you ever see Sundin do the same thing if twitter were available in his day?

I just cant fathom standing pat and trying to hit one out of the park for a 48 game season.... bad advice is what I call it

But given how closely comparable he is to Landeskog that doesn't strike me as being way outside of the league's salary structure.

When did Kadri win the Calder and get named the Captain of the Leafs? Is Phaneuf upset about that? Are the Leafs trading Phaneuf and that's why Kadri has been named captain? Holy crap, did I go into a coma for a stretch and miss all the drama? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Carry on Nik, you're the smartest. We get it.

Does anyone remember the last time a Leaf player sat out the start of the year because of a contract negotiation stalemate?

Those are pretty arbitrary distinctions. Even if the Calder were some kind of constant statement of greatness as opposed to something that peaks and craters depending on the strength of the rookie class the only reason Landeskog won it is because RNH got hurt. Nobody gives out a contract on that basis.

No, you just woke up in a world where things like "How good a player is at playing hockey" is more relevant to the question of their contract than "Did Ryan Nugent-Hopkins get hurt two years ago?" or "Is Colorado crappy?".

This, for those of you playing at home, is called projection.

Nonis' take on Kadri's contract negotiations:

"If he can elevate his game so he?s a guy you can say is a No. 1 centre and if he does those things, which we believe he can do, then he could be a guy you could definitely put a long-term tag on.?

It's pretty obvious all signs point to a bridge contract.

Or no contract I guess. Which is the way it should be.

Kadri can ask for the moon but I don't think he's earned it yet.

Solution trade Kessel to Calgary for 2 firsts and a second then can sign Kadri. lol. really if Kadri is smart he signs a one year bridge contract and then if does as he shows then he will make up for that in next few years. He does need to keep quiet about negotiations. 5 years 25  million if asking that versus 1 year at 3 million and then 4 at 26 million if he signs a bridge and puts up numbers he did early in this last season.

I'm not sure how signing a bridge contract would prove him to be smart. I think it's smart to get as much money as you can as quickly as you can. What if he suffers a career ending injury this season? I doubt he'd think it smart that he left millions on the table.

Hold on just one second there Bullfrog. Are you suggesting that some people here are confusing what is best for Kadri and what would be best for the Maple Leafs in light of their cap situation? Because if you're looking at everyone saying that the only contract that Kadri has earned is one that fits easily into the situation the Leafs have I have one word for you my friend, COINCIDENCE.

I don't have a problem with Kadri asking for what he's asking. And I don't have a problem with the Leafs offering what they're offering. It's a negotiation, that's how this works. Eventually they'll find a common ground. What does bug me about this whole thing is how it's being played out in the media. And that's not just on Kadri and his 'bobo' comment. Nonis and the Leafs have been negotiating through the media just as much if not more.
