Yes, it is a weird comparison.
It's more than just weird. It's comparing a defenceman to a forward, a UFA to an RFA, a contract signed 5 years ago to one being negotiated this summer, and using a mistake by a senile Cliff Fletcher that resulted in the player spending half of the contract in the AHL in order to avoid the cap hit - which can't be done anymore - as a comparison. Really, is an absurd comparison.

Yeah. I mean, it could be a steal, but, it could also go the other way.

Well, I would hope that would have been understood. I mean, very few things in this world are black and white, right?

Like MLSE actually has to pay reporters to go fishing for quotes from people who aren't really connected to the situation.

Nik the Trik said:I'd be a little disappointed by a two-year deal. I know people think that it would be the best thing for the Leafs but I kind of go the other way. If you can sign him to a deal similar to the one Adam Henrique signed I think the Leafs ultimately do better for themselves and, quite frankly, the Leafs need some guys performing well above their contract if they're going to have a bunch of guys on the roster like Clarkson, Bozak, Kessel and Phaneuf who they'll be paying at market value.
So while I appreciate that that sort of thing doesn't fit into the Leafs current cap situation it would have been nice to have locked Kadri up until he was 28-29, I think.
