Playoffs Round 2: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers

https://twitter.com/markhmasters/status/1653068310890651652

No changes to the lines at practice, unless they stick with the full 4th line (this could easily still be 11-7).

Probably the most notable thing at practice was that Murray took part for the first time since his injury. That combined with Kallgren being sent back to the Marlies earlier in the day is a sign he could be ready to play/dress.

Sad trombone for anyone looking to travel to Florida for games 3 or 4.

On the one hand, I get it. You want your home crowd behind you and a crowd full of Leafs fans makes your club look a little bush league. On the other, doing this sends stories to the media anyway so I'm not sure that makes you look much better.

Looks like 12 and 6 with Holl out! I am good with that. Leafs haven't even played that well yet. I think it's entirely possible that the Leafs start playing better and get on a roll here! Leafs in 5.

If Murray's good to go do you even dress him? I think I would dress Woll, even with the 2 the rings Murray has.

To state the obvious: this won't be a cakewalk.  Sounds like FLA's forecheck caved in the Bruins' D.  So we may see more of 37 and 56 and less of 3 and 2 this round.

Er, taking back the "less of 2" comment.  I didn't realize how well Schenn did statistically in the TB series.  He'll be playing each game, and should.

I would hope to see a little less of 55 or at least put him out there with a mobile partner like Brodie when they feel a need to play him.
Sure he does block a lot of shots but wouldnt have to if he didnt keep reversing puck and turning it over.

Gio/Liljegren were a fine pairing during the regular season so I think the Leafs could run with that as their 3rd pair.

Maybe Dubas signing 10 Dmen was actually a genius move, because in the extreme you can swap people like Gio/Schenn/Benn out for Liljegren/Gustafsson/Timmins and completely change the look & style of your team. It lets you significantly adapt to different opponents and different styles.

(I'm still not sure what to do with Holl; fire him into the sun?)

Just be thankful he's seem planted in the press box for now. They really did need all those D men. Pre deadline we were 2 defensemen away from adequate D and having a committee for the spots 6-7 seems to be working. The variety of styles of Dman in the mix is a definite asset that allows Keefe to customize the lineup based on matchups.

It's amazing to see Schenn out there. It was a dark time when we drafted him 5th overall. Felt like they were just bad enough to not make the playoffs but not so bad that they would get a decent draft pick (purgatory). I wanted him so badly to be part of the answer and things have come full circle and here he is.

Gotta love his size, abilty to block shots and on occasion bury someone into boards, but such a polarizing guy with inconsistency in his game and decision making.

My opinion is absolutely yes you dress him. If he?s cleared to play he should be on the bench.

Agreed. Maybe he'll be easier to move in the offseason if he's at least on the bench and upright.

Keefe says Woll over Murray.

You need to give Murray a little more time to get fully into game shape and ready before you suit him up for a playoff game, even to sit on the bench. So, going with Woll for now is the right move. But, once we get deeper into the series, I think you probably need to get Murray in there (on the bench, not in the net).

Even if Woll is the guy you want starting if Samsonov gets hurt, I'd like to see him get some AHL games in and stay in game shape.  It's not a bad thing to have him in the minors once Murray is well enough to play as the backup.

Especially since the Marlies in also hoping for a good playoff run. Would put him into a similarly intense atmosphere.

Corgi went 5-1 (but got the series winner) in the last Leaf series, and even matched the game narrative for the first 5 games.
