Nah refs called this correctly. Other than the insane dive Greig tried to sell but whacked himself in the teeth with his stick.

I like Mattinen?s skating up until he touches the puck and then turns it into a grenade. He owes Hildeby dinner.

Robertson looking motivated and generally effective (uh maybe playing with Domi is detrimental).

After two games I haven't seen a lot from Cowan that would make me think you waive someone to keep him in the NHL

Pontus should have shot Greig into the net.

Here are my impressions:

Stolarz and Hildeby looked fine

Rifai had some good moments - helped to secure his place high on the depth chart
Benoit was typically physical but it was not his best game in terms of decisions/execution
The other dmen did little to alter their destination to the AHL/waivers.

Shaw, Alex Nylander, Quillan & Hirvonen did little to change their AHL destination. I was a little disappointed in Alex Nylander - he reminds me of Willy but is not that close to his brother's skill & ability. He has a lot of work to do. I also had higher hopes for Quillan.
Steeves with his goal and play helped keep himself near the top of the AHL callups - he didn't strike me as a stand out though

Knies & Kampf were typical of their play in the past
McMann too - which was good to see after his injury last year - he skated & played well
Holmberg probably squandered an opportunity to secure a spot on the NHL roster - he's on the bubble - it was a mixed performance from a reasonable effort
Robertson made a credible, noticeable effort - was one of the key offensive threats but it was more of the same on the periphery. He didn't justify cracking the top 9 in this game in my opinion but he probably earned himself another look.

Cowan - has not shown enough in the first 2 games to justify keeping him in the NHL
Grebenkin's a keeper but needs AHL seasoning

I think the most notable thing was the Leafs played 0 NHL playdriving centres, and the scoresheet showed it.

Certainly the level of opponent has something to do with it, but the wingers mostly looked neutered most of the game, except for the ones that could make stuff happen on their own gumption (Robertson, Knies, and McMann sort of). It looked like there was a more concerted focus to play Berube's North-first way and rely on linemates and structure to move the puck, rather than waiting for your skill guys, but there was a lot of thinking happening, and not as much instinct yet.

I'll echo cw for most of it: the goalies were good! most of the NHLers were ok to good (except Nylander if we're counting him as an NHLer; he was ineffective). None of the lower tier prospects changed anybody's minds -- some solidified that they aren't NHLers, unfortunately. Given the centres rolled out this game, it really showed Minten's value through his absence.

My ballparked D depth outside the NHL rankings so far (excluding Juniors):
LD: Rifai/Kokkonen  Mermis  Webber
RD: Myers Niemela    Mattinen/Villeneuve

I'm assuming this was the "it is time to panic" question.  Our media is the worst.

It's great we are finally assembling a D with some talent and depth. With our Goaltending shored up it seems our goals against should come down quite a bit.
