This is the perfect year to have more youth developing on the parent club with limited expectations. I would try to make room for 3 more on top of Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Carrick, Corrado. Hyman, Soshnikov, and Brown. Bozak, Komarov, Holland bolstering the bottom 6.

Same. Ultimately, I'd like to see the leafs put some of the players you've mentioned, along with Kapanen, in the lineup to showcase to move for defensive talent. We're going to have to give up something significant to get substantial D help, and putting veteran forwards in the lineup isn't going to get a lot of interest generated.

Strawman?  Not even close.  Slight exaggeration?  Absolutely, in order to hammer home the point the followed, which you completely left alone.

Pro-tip, next time you might want to address the specifics of what someone is saying rather than construct a fantasy you're arguing against. I "ignored" the point that followed because it's entirely irrelevant. Nobody is arguing for a veteran-free lineup. Presenting the difference between 10 veterans and 8 veterans or 6 veterans as a drastic all or nothing scenario is the definition of a strawman. It's one of the only tricks in your bag and it's as transparent as it is unimpressive.

Too much of a youth movement of rookies all at the same time, never bodes well.  You need to stagger at least a little.

This is based on what? What examples do you have that outline how many rookies is too many vs. just right? Or are you just pulling that out of the air? In what way would 6 rookies constitute perfection but 8 way too much?

You're just making crap up and pretending it has the weight of evidence behind it.

Take a look at the average age of players that played 20+ games in Clark's draft rookie year as just an off the top of my head example.

Best as I can tell, that team had 3 rookies.

And a ton of youth, with very limited NHL experience, right?

And Salming.

Leipsic looks like he would really like to play in the NHL.
The fact that he won't but Greening, Laich, Holland, Michalek and Komarov are all in roster spots really isn't much of a testament to how this team has been put together so far.

I'm less concerned about the veteran forwards making the team than the the older defensemen they might keep around. Hunwick's been the skater more or less responsible for 3 (4?) goals over the last couple games, and Polak couldn't really keep up in the AHL game. If one of the development purposes of the season is to instill a system based on possession and movement, those look like detriments. The forwards you list don't have the skill or upside of Leipsic, Brown, or Kapanen, but they don't seem to be getting in the way.

Again, if you want to make a factual point about the relative experience of that team feel free to dig into the numbers and produce some facts. We were talking about the number of rookies it's good for a team to have, that team had three. I'm pretty confident I could find a good team with three rookies.

I think you can make various cases with regards to which decision is worse but I think they're coming from the same flawed thinking.
