I think it's more of a desire to spend the money in a different way and trading Marner is the only way to do that next year. I'm happy signing Marner and then moving on from Tavares after next year. Spend the Tavares money on defense and goaltending.

I'd say they missed Marner as much as or more than anyone who was hurt this year.  Which is not to say that they didn't miss Willy (and McMann) last night.

Same. He's a special player and will probably go down as one of the most skilled Maple Leafs in generations. But I'm a bit tired of having mediocre goaltending. That would be my priority.

I have high hopes for Hildeby and Akhtyamov. Money should go to the Cs and top-2 D.

And, according to Mirtle, if the Leafs scrub out ignobly again, ownership is very committed to rolling heads.
