He said part of the problem on the PP is Rielly isn't a bomb threat so it allows the Bruins to play a little wider and that also helps take away the cross seam pass. So essentially you're down 2 things right off the hop. Says the Bruins are being really aggressive. Let's face it, Matthews is the only real shot threat out there.
What I don't get and probably many of you don't as well is why they keep running the same guys out there. Domi is good enough for 5v5 but not on the PP with Matthews?
Let's see if they adjust.
I guess Ray doesn't know what he's talking about either.
You don't need bombs, but you do need shooting threats. Rielly is a sifter who can get pucks on net to generate rebounds, and he's a pretty good passer.
What Ray Ferraro is really saying is the Leafs are deploying a PP that has only one real shooting option, which is easy to shut down (cover Matthews). An easy change to the PP with the same people is to ask Marner to not hold it looking for a lane, but just pump it on net like a mini-rush. Then you can really take advantage of Tavares/Bertuzzi in tight, and Matthews' ability to pick a puck out of a crowd and roof it. As long as Marner holds the puck and drifts around for an opening for a cross-seam one-timer from his cash cow Matthews, the PP will sputter regardless of who else is on the unit.
